Kia ora Kāpiti

Welcome to your latest update from the team at the Kāpiti Coast District Council. Here's what you need to know this week.

Final election results now live

The election results are final and our newly elected members officially come into office today. Yesterday a powhiri was held in our Council chambers to welcome in our new Council and Community Boards. Check out our website to find out who will represent the views of your District and community for the next three years.

Waikanae Spring Market this Saturday

Join us this Saturday 26 October from 9.00am till 2.00pm at the Waikanae Spring Market where we'll be officially opening the newly designed Mahara Place. To celebrate, we will be doing a prize draw for an overnight trip to Kāpiti Island. Visit our website to find out how to enter.

Votes are in for our next playground upgrades

We asked your opinion on what playgrounds you'd like to see built and we now have a winning design for each of the four playgrounds that are being upgraded. Collectively we received almost 800 votes! Check out the winning options for each park on our website, and keep an eye out for the Tasman Road playground results coming next week.

Electra Business Awards 2019

Congratulations to all the businesses who were acknowledged at the Electra Business Awards on Friday night. Winners included Otaki New World – Electra Business of the Year 2019, Kāpiti Coast Funeral Home – Highly Commended Award 2019, and Kāpiti Hall of Fame Laureate - John Mowbray. Big thanks to all the organisers, sponsors, judges and assessors for all their hard work in delivering another great event.

Raumati Village infrastructure upgrades complete

Our work to enhance stormwater network capacity and upgrade the footpath on the eastern side of Margaret Road, from just south of Reddins Restaurant to Kāpiti College in Raumati, is complete. We’d like to thank everyone for their patience over the past few months, especially businesses in the Raumati Village.

AED relocation in Mahara Place

The Automatic External Defibrillator in Mahara Place has a new home - a secure cabinet mounted to the wall of Shoreline Cinema. It’s easy to use, even if you haven’t had training and can increase a person’s chance of survival by 80% if used within 5 minutes of the event. In an emergency, dial 111 to be given a keycode to unlock the cabinet. You can find the locations of other defibrillators around Kāpiti here.

A day in the life of our Aquatics Team

Our lifeguards are always working hard to make our aquatic facilities the best they can be! Check out what a typical day looks like for them at our Coastlands Aquatic Centre.
