Kia ora Kāpiti

Welcome to your latest update from the team at the Kāpiti Coast District Council. Here's what you need to know this week.

Preliminary results are in for this year’s election

Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote in our local body elections - just over 45% of eligible Kāpiti voters returned their vote. Preliminary results show K Gurunathan has been re-elected Mayor of the Kāpiti Coast District Council for the 2019-2022 triennium. Final results will be available on 17 October.

Join the New Zealand ShakeOut this Thursday

Our national earthquake drill and tsunami hīkoi is taking place this Thursday 17 October at 1.30pm. ShakeOut is held across the world to remind people of what they need to do during an earthquake — Drop, Cover and Hold — and to practise a tsunami hīkoi (evacuation) if in a coastal area. It’s not too late to register your workplace to take part! Sign up here.

International dinner this Saturday

The Kāpiti Coast Multicultural Council are hosting their annual international dinner this Saturday at the Impact Hub, 6 Tongariro St, Paraparaumu from 5pm – 7pm. Come along with a plate of food and koha, and discover the rich diversity of Kāpiti while connecting with people from different cultures over traditional food. Find out more.

Last chance to have your say on our playgrounds

We're upgrading five local playgrounds and we want your votes on what equipment to put in! The designs are based on feedback we received following consultation with the community earlier in the year. Each of the five playgrounds has two options to vote for - head to our website to check out the different options and pick your favourites. Voting closes tomorrow!

Kāpiti Arts Trail mix and mingle

There was a buzz of excitement at Council last Thursday evening when over 40 artists and their supporters gathered to pick up their flags for the Kāpiti Arts Trail. It was great to hear some experienced participants sharing tips and advice with those who are new to the Trail this year. There's only three weeks to go before artists open their studio doors - have you planned your day on the Trail yet?

We want to see your Kāpiti snaps!
