Kia ora Kāpiti

Welcome to your latest update from the team at the Kāpiti Coast District Council. Here's what you need to know this week.

Mahara Place improvements celebrated at Spring Market

A big thank you to everyone who joined us in Mahara Place on Saturday for Destination Waikanae’s Spring Market. The Mahara Place improvements are the result of a team effort involving Councillors, Council staff, urban architects, Iwi and community representatives. Our aim was to create a space where people want to spend time and it was great to see people out and about enjoying the new space and soaking up the market’s vibrant atmosphere.

Arts Trail starts this weekend

The Kāpiti Arts Trail kicks off this weekend, with more than 100 artists taking part. There's something for everyone on the Trail with an array of creative artists – some new and some long-time regulars – taking part. Grab a copy of the Kāpiti Arts Guide from our libraries and service centres or visit our website for more info.

Explore our region’s trails

Find your wild this summer! Our friends at WellingtonNZ have some awesome prizes to give away to keen explorers over the next six weeks, including a grand prize of an iPhone 11! All you need to do to be in to win is take a picture on one of the featured Wellington region trails and share it on Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #findyourwildnz.

Mazengarb/Ratanui Rd roundabout complete

Our works to improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection of Ratanui and Mazengarb Road are complete. The new roundabout is in place and improving traffic flow, and we’ve also widened the footpath and installed crossing points on either side of the intersection to make it safer and more accessible for pedestrians. A big thank you to everyone for their patience and understanding during our improvement works.

Make a splash this summer

Summer is on its way to the Kāpiti Coast and our splash pads at Marine Gardens in Raumati and Haruātai Park in Ōtaki are now open. The good news doesn't end there – our much-loved Waikanae Pool will open its doors for the summer season on Monday 4 November. Visit our website for more info about our aquatic facilities and opening hours.

Get prepared for an emergency

It’s never too early to think about how you, your family and your neighbours can get better prepared for an emergency. Having a plan can help everything go a little more smoothly if an emergency strikes. Get to know your neighbours, talk about how you can help each other out in an emergency and exchange contact details so you can stay in touch.  Visit the Civil Defence website for more on how to get prepared.

Customer Experience Survey

We’re seeking your help to find out how we can improve customer experience. The Association of Local Government Information Management (ALGIM) have set up a short survey to find out where we’re at with customer experience and interaction, and what we could improve on. The survey only takes five minutes, and closes on 4 November 2019. We appreciate your feedback.
