Kia ora Kāpiti

Welcome to your latest update from the team at the Kāpiti Coast District Council. Here's what you need to know this week.

Maclean Park's ready for summer!

Stage one of our Maclean Park refresh is complete! Senior Parks Officer Monique takes us through all the cool new additions and upgrades to the park, including the barbeque area and the basketball court. Check it out!

Haruātai Park resurfacing complete

We’ve recently completed our work to resurface the tennis courts at Haruātai Park in Ōtaki. The courts now have a modern artificial multi-sports surface, and we’ve purchased four removable nets to enable the courts to be used as an all-weather training facility when they're not in use for tennis. The courts are open to the public most of the time, except for when the Otaki Tennis Club hold their club sessions.

Intersection improvements

Our intersection improvements at Mazengarb and Ratanui Roads are progressing well. This week we’re working on the south side of the roundabout to create space for new street lighting, footpaths and traffic lanes. Stop/go traffic management is in place to enable these works to progress safely. Please take care if you are moving through the area and allow a little extra time for your journey.

He taonga te wau - our water is precious

We’re committed to providing a safe and reliable drinking water supply to our communities. Over the next three years we’re planning to spend around $16 million on upgrading our Waikanae, Hautere and two Ōtaki water treatment plants. The upgrades of the Hautere and Ōtaki treatment plants will help improve the resilience and reliability of these drinking water supplies, and the work at the Waikanae Treatment Plant involves replacing some of the equipment that is nearing the end of its life. Have your say on our district's future

The nominations are in and we’re gearing up for our local body election. Voting papers arrive between 20-25 September and voting closes at 12 noon on Saturday 12 October. Voting is your chance to have a say in the way our district moves ahead. If you're not already enrolled, you can still do so before 11 October and request special voting papers from our electoral officer. This also applies if your details are incorrect on the roll.

Kāpiti good sorts: Waikanae Estuary Care Group

It’s taken the Waikanae Estuary Care Group the better part of 13 years, but their war on 75 hectares of exotic weed wasteland next to the Waikanae River is paying off. The tireless efforts of over 100 volunteers has transformed the area into a near-natural native plant habitat and, in turn, fostered over 60 species of birds as well as plants, fish, reptiles and mammals. Read more about them and our other good sorts on our website.

Waikanae Pool gets ready for summer

Work is underway to get the much-loved Waikanae Pool ready for another busy summer season. A temporary structure has been put over the top of the pool to enable us to give it a fresh lick of paint. Watch this space!
