January and February proved to be pretty busy months! We took Fairmount on the road twice since our last news update, we've thrown a couple of fundraisers, kicked-off a new semester of ministry events, and are planning a couple of Town Hall Meetings. There's hardly a dull moment around Fairmount! Here are some updates from the last month or so:

FIESTA Celebration(s)

Saturday, January 25, we hosted a FIESTA fundraiser benefit at Risen Savior Lutheran Church-Wichita. The dinner was an amazing evening of story-sharing and connecting with our community. Thank you to our community, for your overwhelming support! A big thanks to Risen Savior for allowing us to use your fellowship hall and kitchen!

One of our student missionaries, Kellie, threw a FIESTA fundraiser dinner at her church, Holy Cross Lutheran Church-Wichita, this month as well. Thank you, friends, at Holy Cross for your generous hearts. And thank you to Kellie for all your hard work!

Between these two fundraisers and your generous donations through the mail and online giving, we were blessed to receive $6,394.00 for this year's spring break mission trip! We are truly blown away by all of your support, THANK YOU!

Please continue to keep our missionaries and our ministry staff in your prayers as we prepare for the mission trip to Mexico.

Theology on Tap on the Road

On Sunday, January 26, we took a group of about 15 from Fairmount up to Three Rings Brewery in McPherson. Owners, and members of Immanuel Lutheran-Canton, Brian and Kim Smith rolled out the red carpet for us. They provided pizza for our group and even gave us an extensive tour of their brewery. It was an educational and fun tour, delicious food, and a great time connecting with new friends!

Pastor Brent Horne, of Immanuel Lutheran-Canton, led a discussion on “How to Develop a Theological Aptitude.” We broke up into smaller tables to discuss various questions and then came back together to discuss further with Pastor. It was a wonderful evening! We are so thankful to the Smiths and Pastor for being such great hosts and a wonderful facilitator respectively.

Servant Event in Newton

Earlier this month, a group of students and young adults from Fairmount took a short trip up the road to Zion Lutheran- Newton. We had a blast packing 20,000 meals with NUMANA and were so excited to serve alongside many of our friends from area churches! Thank you to Donna Williams and Zion Lutheran for inviting us to join y'all.

This Month's News

In addition to normally scheduled ministry events, in this issue, there are two important dates to save for our upcoming Town Hall Meetings, two new ways for you to serve with us at Fairmount, and we share ways to give to Fairmount Ministries.

Your presence is vital!

Please join us for one of our town hall meetings in April. We will share stories from our past, our present, and discuss how you can walk alongside us as we step out in faith for the future!

We will be offering two nearly identical meetings at Fairmount Ministries & Coffee Company:
(We will try to keep the meetings to 1.5 hours)

Sunday, April 5, 6:30pm

Saturday, April 25, 6:30pm

God has been and continues to do amazing things through and amongst us here at Fairmount. To ensure the long-term sustainability of Fairmount Ministries & Coffee Company, we need your partnership. These identical meetings will allow us the opportunity to discuss with our community what exactly we need financially to sustain and even grow this beautiful gift we've been entrusted with at Fairmount Ministries. We hope to see you there!

Tell Your Story

During the Town Hall Meetings, we would like to offer a time where our community can share their stories.  We are looking for a handful of people to share how God worked in your lives from your days at the Lutheran Student Center/University Lutheran Center/Fairmount Ministries. Or share stories of what this ministry means to you. Don't fret; we're not asking for a long presentation. Up to 5 minutes will be allotted for each story. Stories do not have to be from alumni or current students only. We'd love to hear stories from past or present Council members and past or present volunteers.

Are you interested in sharing your story? Give us a call at 316-684-5224 or send an email to Jenn Eickman to sign up. Can't make it, but still want to share your story? Send us an email, and we can share your story for you!

Prayers for Fairmount

Would you pray for us? Here are some of our prayer needs:
  • Students: as we come to mid-terms around the corner, please pray that they stay motivated, focused, and healthy.
  • Staff: for their health during this elevated cold/flu season.
  • Our Campus Ministry: Give thanks for 60 years of LCMS ministry at WSU! Pray that the Lord provides opportunities to talk with students about faith and the grace that comes through a relationship with Christ!
  • Spring Break Mexico Mission Trip: as we prepare for the mission trip next month.
  • Give thanks for our faith community, who continues to show up through their time, treasures, and talents. We are so grateful for our amazing volunteers!
  • That the Lord would inspire more people to become monthly donors &/or get involved with Fairmount Ministries.
  • Thanksgiving for the many blessings and provisions He has given us daily!

Theology on Tap!

We are meeting this Sunday, Feb. 23, at 7pm at River City Brewing Company. Pastor Scott Goltl (Ascension-Wichita) will be leading the discussion, "Day to Day Living the Faith."

College & Young Adult Bible Study

Join us as we delve into the book of James, at 7pm in the Living Room.

The Table: A Community Gathering

All members of our community are invited to join us for a monthly gathering of dinner, conversation, faith discussion, prayer and praise! Our next gathering will be March 14 at 6pm.

Local Service Project: Save the Date

We will be sending a group to the Risen Savior Lutheran Church-Wichita NUMANA evening on Saturday morning, Saturday, March 28. Look for more details soon!

Campus Outreach Event

W-S-YOU, a program for admitted high school seniors and transfer students, is taking place on Saturday, March 28, on campus on the 3rd floor of the RSC from 9:30am-2:30pm. We are looking for volunteers who will help share ministry information and coffee samples! This is an excellent opportunity to engage with students that will be coming to WSU in the fall and introduce our ministry and delicious coffee to them! If you are interested in helping with this event, please contact Paige at or by calling the office 316-684-5224.

Mexico Mission Trip

We are still able to accept registrations for our spring break mission trip, March 21-27! If you are interested in attending, please contact Paige ASAP! Want to learn more about our Spring Break Mexico Mission Trip? Click here.

Invest In the Work of Fairmount Ministries

Your monthly gift is not about supporting a coffee shop. Your monthly gift will make an eternal difference by impacting lives for Jesus Christ!

This is what your monthly support will do:
  • Assist us in expanding the outreach and impact of Fairmount Ministries.
  • Equip our team with the resources to reach more with the love and message of Christ Jesus.
  • Help to sustain the ministry happening at Fairmount and Wichita State University.
  • Further provide opportunities to foster relationships, encourage community, and promote dialogue about faith and life, for the university and the community in order to bring people closer to Jesus Christ.

Please consider investing in Fairmount Ministries by becoming a monthly sustaining partner.

When we started the venture of Fairmount Coffee Co. two years ago, we were advised by many business consultants that most small businesses do not break even in their first 5 years of operations. So, it is not alarming that the coffeehouse ministry is not breaking even at this time. However, we are continually working to improve our processes and make our ministry as sustainable as possible. One way to do this is by consistently evaluating our operations and making vital tweaks to products, procedures, pricing, labor costs, etc. The other way to make Fairmount Ministries & Coffee Co. a sustainable ministry is through your donations!
It is our goal to increase our monthly donations to $6,000 per month.
We currently receive $2,890 each month.

Would you please prayerfully consider becoming a sustaining partner with our ministry?
Visit and choose "Regularly" under "Frequency" to give monthly to Fairmount Ministries & Coffee Co. or mail checks to 3815 E 17th St. N., Wichita, KS 67208.

Support our Mission Trip!

Like to bake or know someone who does? Here's a cool way to support our Spring Break Mission Trip! We are taking pre-orders for Pure Vanilla from Mexico! We are taking a group of 14 individuals down to Puerto Peñasco to build a home for a family in need. We will purchase the Vanilla when we are in Mexico. Orders can be placed online and we will contact you when they are ready for pick-up.

Our Biggest Needs

This list includes everything from financial needs, to manpower needs, to physical needs. Here are some of our current needs:
  • Your presence at one of our Town Hall Meetings (see above)
  • Increase recurring monthly donations to $6,000 each month to help make Fairmount a sustainable ministry of the LCMS. We currently receive $2,890 per month in recurring donations.
  • Raise immediate capital of $50k-$100k!
  • New roof for Living Room and office areas & TWO new air conditioners for the entire facility. The project will be $26,000.

Interested in helping with one of these items, give us a call 316-684-5224 or send email to
Thank you for your continued prayers and support as we seek to provide opportunities to foster relationships, encourage community, and promote dialogue about faith and life, for the university and the community in order to bring people closer to Jesus Christ.

We could not continue to do our ministry without the generosity of our faithful donors. Please consider making Fairmount Ministries a part of your planned giving.
