School started this week! The students have been slowly returning in waves as they move back to campus. Things have picked up at the coffeehouse this past week, which is unreal because we had our BEST SUMMER EVER! God is so good. In the midst of a pandemic and economic crisis, He has shown up in ways we couldn't expect.

This Month's News

We've got a lot of exciting updates for you in this month's newsletter! First off, we are excited to share how the summer went and give you an update about Chill & Chat! You won't want to miss the information about The Gathering, our annual fall benefit fundraiser. There are also updates about our fall kick-off, Party on the Patio, Campus Ministry Bible Study, and lastly, information about how you can support our ministry through your time and treasures.

Summer Chill & Chat

This summer did not go as we had planned, yet God uses everything to His Glory, right? After moving our weekly Bible study online during the quarantine shutdown, we took a little break from meeting when the school year came to a close. But it did not take long to realize that we missed gathering together to study the Word and be in community!

In June, we began meeting again weekly with our college students and young adults for Chill & Chat, a laid back time to take it easy, enjoy each other's company, and talk about a topic related to our Faith.

We listened to different podcasts and discussed them through the lens of Christian faith. Some of the podcasts were produced by Christian ministries, pastors, and leaders/teachers, while other podcasts were not related to Faith at all. These podcasts, whether Christian or not, were used as a springboard to discuss topics relative to what young adults and college students are walking through at this time, what the Bible says about these topics, and how these young adults can walk in Faith, in relation to each weekly theme.

Topics ranged from:
     -Science & Faith
     -Race
     -Staying connected in the pandemic
-Do people go to heaven if they’ve never heard the Gospel?
     -How to be authentic
     -To many more!

We had a fantastic summer connecting with college students and young adults who joined us for Chill & Chat. We want to say THANK YOU to those who participated and were flexible with us. Sometimes we met in person and sometimes on Zoom. Often, "where" we met was chosen the day of, because of the weather or temperature. On the days that we were able to meet in person, we physically-distanced ourselves on the west lawn at Fairmount.

We want to say THANK YOU to our students and young adults who took on and shared the leadership of this group with our ministry team, Paige Edgington & Pastor Aaron Hannemann. It was a joy to brainstorm ideas/topics, as well as watch y'all facilitate the discussions!

Update: The Gathering

The Gathering is an annual celebration and benefit fundraiser for Fairmount Ministries. This year, things will be a bit different because of Covid-19.

The event will be held from Sept. 20 - Sept. 27. Because our event is over multiple dates, you can choose when you feel most comfortable to stop by. We will have the event at Fairmount Ministries & Coffee Company. So, this will be an excellent opportunity to see our space, if you've never visited in person.

Your ticket will include a meal from Fairmount Coffee Company and a passport to "The Tour de Fairmount." There will be fun activities planned, including a virtual silent auction. You can stop by during our regular operating hours, or join us on one of the two Sundays we will open especially for this event!

For more information about this event, click here. To purchase your tickets, click here.

Proceeds of this event will bless our ministry with the resources to continue to reach out to the students of WSU, young adults, and our general community with the love and salvation of Jesus Christ!

**Please note, we will update more with additional information in the coming weeks. Visit www.fairmountministries.org/The-Gathering for the most recent info.

Currently, we are looking for event sponsors & silent auction baskets. If you'd like to jump in and help with either of these needs, reach out to Jenn Eickman at 316-684-5224 or jaewrites2@gmail.com.
Would you pray for us? Here are some of our prayer needs:

College Students: as they return to college during a pandemic. Pray for patience and flexibility when things change last minute. Pray for good relationships and friendships to develop. Pray for college students everywhere to become a part of a Christian community, like Fairmount, and a church.

Thanksgivings! We have so many reasons to be thankful. Would you please offer thanks to the Lord for the following blessings we've seen over this past month?
  • Our team has remained healthy, and our ministry has been able to continue outreach efforts during a time of fear and "social-distancing."
  • We have received two grants this month; from the Evergy Community Investment Fund at the Wichita Community Foundation & the Lutheran Church Extension Fund KS/OK Districts.
  • We received an estate-gift in memory of a loved one, to be used toward the roof & A/C.
Outreach Efforts: as we reconnect with returning students and meet new students. Please pray that the Lord gives us opportunities to connect with these students and help them to find a Christian home and community in our Campus Ministry.

Fairmount Staff: as we daily make difficult decisions on how to navigate this time best and walk alongside the hurting people that come through our doors. Pray also that God gives us the strength and words to comfort and encourage those in our community who are angry, anxious, and afraid.

The Lord's Provision: He has been Faithful in the past, and we know and believe He will continue to be Faithful! We pray that He will continue to provide for us daily!

Become a Monthly Partner

Because we are a growing ministry, we need your support now more than ever before! Our goal is to grow our monthly recurring donations to be $6,000 per month. We still have a ways to go to reach this goal. As of 6/30/20, we receive $2,336.54 per month. As many churches and ministries have experienced a decrease in monthly giving since the COVID-19 pandemic, so has Fairmount Ministries.

Here are just a few things that your monthly support will do:
  • Assist us in expanding the outreach and impact of Fairmount Ministries.
  • Equip our team with the resources to reach more with the love and message of Christ Jesus.
  • Help to sustain the ministry happening at Fairmount and Wichita State University.
  • Further provide opportunities to foster relationships, encourage community, and promote dialogue about faith and life, for the university and the community to bring people closer to Jesus Christ.
  • Not only would this help us to become a sustainable ministry, but your gift would also help our ministry to thrive!

Please consider investing in Fairmount Ministries by becoming a monthly sustaining partner.

Thank you for your continued prayers and support as we seek to provide opportunities to foster relationships, encourage community, and promote dialogue about faith and life, for the university and the community in order to bring people closer to Jesus Christ.
