We hope this isn't wishful thinking, but spring seems to be just right around the corner! Let's pray March doesn't live up to the "in like a lion, and out like a lamb" saying. After last month, we are ready for sunshine, warmer weather, and outside conversations...soaking up that Vitamin D!

Because we are anxiously awaiting spring, two of the items in this month's issue deal with spring and the warmer weather quickly approaching. The three things you need to know this month are about our Young Adult Group, the Fairmount Community Garden, & recently Answered Prayers!

Just as a refresher, if you missed it last month, we will be sharing shorter updates multiple times each month. Instead of one long newsletter, you'll receive one with three things you should know. Then, later in the month, you'll receive a second email with stories and other fun things!
Last month, we highlighted our two College Groups, and this month we are excited to share more about what we have going on for Young Adults (YA)!

This group is made up of recent grads, young professionals, graduate students, or non-traditional students. They meet two times a month, once for fellowship and once for Bible Study. The meeting place is usually at one of our homes or a local restaurant.
In February, we had our first YA event of the year. We met in the home of one of our young adults, enjoyed a hot chocolate bar, treats, fellowship, and a Bible Study and discussion over the topic “Apologetics.” While a broad topic, it was a great discussion that introduced many questions about the Bible and faith!

Our next Young Adult event is Tuesday, March 16, at 7pm. We haven't decided where yet, so make sure to join our group to stay in the loop and get connected!

Not a Young Adult? Let your YA friends know about this great opportunity to connect!
Did you know that we have a Community Garden? It's located on the west lawn, in the south corner. It began in 2018 as a dream we had with a few of our community members and neighbors. Our garden is a communal garden. What does that mean? We all work together to make our garden wonderful; planning, planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting.

We have planted herbs, peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, lettuces, and other various veggies in past years. At harvest time, we have enjoyed the veggies and herbs in the shop and given away the bounty to our community.

This will be our fourth year planting, and we are excited to get the ball rolling for another great year of the Fairmount Community Garden! In 2020, we were blessed with a generous grant from the Wichita Community Foundation, which will allow us to expand the garden and offer some educational events/experiences for our community.

Here's what we need to make it all happen:
  • Ongoing Garden Volunteers: We need people to help plan, plant, water/weed, and harvest this year's Community Garden. We welcome both the novice and the experienced. If you are interested in learning about gardening or have gardening experience, we’d love to have you on the team!
  • Construction Volunteers: We need people to help plan, build, and construct our expansion, as well as help install an irrigation system.
If you want to learn more, fill out this short interest form, and we will be in touch to see what role you can play in our Fairmount Community Garden Team!
In the sizzling days of June 2019, in the midst of our then annual Vacation Bible School, one of our AC units stopped...and then the next day, the second unit followed suit. It made for a memorable yet warm VBS!

The stifling weeks of June had been preceded by a soggy spring when we noticed a leak in the ceiling above the Living Room. So, we climbed up on the roof with the professionals and were told that we would soon need to replace the flat roof. This is the same part of the roof that the two AC units sit.

We were able to "put a band-aid" on both the roof and the AC units.  Since then, with our fingers crossed and many prayers uplifted, we have been hoping the band-aids would hold fast while raising funds to replace both the roof and the two AC units.

The projects combined would cost approximately $30,000.

We are thrilled to share that after recently receiving generous blessings of $26,000 from local families and Risen Savior Lutheran Church-Wichita, we are near our total goal! Because we are so close, we have decided to step out in faith and schedule both projects this spring!

If you feel called to help us reach our goal, please call us at 316-684-5224, or reply to this email.
