RI Baptist Heritage Weekend
Directing Traffic at the Intersection of Church and State!?
Nov. 5, 2016
Emmanuel Baptist Church, Providence
9:00 am - 3:00 pm

See the brochure for details and to register.

We can begin to sense the change of seasons in the morning temperatures and in the emerging color in our trees. One of God’s great gifts, a New England fall...a time of gathering and celebration. We remind all that on Nov. 5 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, there will be a gathering and a celebration of our critically influential Baptist heritage. Since the time of Thomas Helwys, Roger Williams, Isaac Backus and other Baptists have advocated for the “separation of church and state”. And even though it is now a basic part of our democratic governance and American culture, we can not disregard the dynamic interaction of religious faith and government. At the intersection of these two forces for the past twenty years was BRENT WALKER, the now retiring Executive of the Baptist Joint Committee in Washington, DC. His efforts as lawyer and theologian engaged the current discourse that still shapes American practice. He is both an operational consequence and symbol of our Baptist heritage. He will speak to us and answer questions about contemporary issues that affect Baptists, all churches and our political process.
Please register quickly if you have not done so already. Registration closes on Oct. 28. Room is limited and there will be many significant guests to pay tribute to Mr. Walker’s long and dedicated service. These guests will include Sen. Reed of RI, Susan Gilles, Interim Exec. of our national denomination, as well as local leaders from the educational and religious communities. This event shares and celebrates our significant Baptist heritage, please gather with us and you and your congregation will be edified!

Communication is Key

The Region Office is always working to update and upgrade our communications network. At the present time we have three main ways to communicate with you and your congregations: the weekly E-notes, our Facebook page, and periodic pastors’ e-mails.
You can help us extend our reach and effectiveness by:
  1. Letting us know if you are not receiving any of these three items
  2.  Providing e-mail addresses of any and all church members who would like to receive the weekly  E-notes, and
  3.  “Like” us (American Baptist Churches of RI) on Facebook.  You can do this right now by simply clicking “here
