Featured Work Group

TOBACCO/SUBSTANCE-FREE LIVING
The Tobacco/Substance-Free Living work group will collaborate with Reno County Communities That Care on awareness and prevention efforts at Hutchinson High School for Kick Butts Day on March 15th.
Tobacco/Substance-Free Living is one of Heal Reno County's six work groups, which provide the structure for interested community members to come together for the important work our county a healthy place to live, work, learn and play. Members of this work group are passionate about creating tobacco-free public spaces in our county and increasing awareness of the harmful effects that tobacco and drug use have on the health of all people, especially youth.

"Having youth involved in the Tobacco/Substance-Free Living work group is very important," said work group Chair Sondra Borth. "We're firm believers in the value of their voices in our efforts toward increasing awareness, prevention and even policy change."

Healthy Workplace Pledges Signed

The list of organizations that have signed a Pathways to a Healthy Workplace Pledge made a jump in February. We're excited to see more worksites realizing the positive impact wellness programs can have on the health and productivity of their employees. Healthy employees are good for business! Congratulations to these six organizations for making a commitment to healthy workplaces!

Survey Results Will Guide Actions

In the fall of 2016, Heal Reno County conducted a survey of Reno County community members examining their perceptions in the areas of healthy eating, active living, and tobacco cessation. The survey was a part of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Pathways to a Healthy Kansas grant.

Over 500 people completed the survey, and a summary of the findings and the actions that will be taken as a result can be found here.
