Featured Work Group

Ensuring Reno County is truly a healthy place to live, work, learn and play requires attention, passion and collaboration. Heal’s six work groups provide the structure for interested community members to come together in this important work.

One of those work groups, Health Care Access Task Force, has been at work on community health issues for nearly three years. “We have really become advocates for the health issues of this community. It’s exciting to think what a group of community members and providers can accomplish by working together,” said Peggy Tuxhorn, Health Care Access Task Force chairperson.

Plum Creek Elementary students are using Go Noodle! It's a fun program designed to get kids moving, and it's available to all Reno County elementary schools thanks to our Blue Cross Blue Shield Pathways to a Healthy Kansas grant. Ask the kids in your life if they’ve tried it yet, and let us know if we can help their school get started with this terrific option for indoor recess and active breaks.
Foundations Workshop Well-Attended

Heal Reno County recently hosted a WorkWell KS Foundations workshop attended by representatives of 14 worksites. Attendees learned about the importance of establishing a solid foundation before beginning a wellness plan and were encouraged to consider signing a Pathways to a Healthy Workplace Pledge. Because Reno County is a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas Pathways to a Healthy Kansas grant recipient, worksites that sign a pledge and follow the Pathways guidelines for full implementation of their worksite plans are eligible for Achievement Grants and employee incentives. Is your worksite ready to join Central Bank and Trust in signing a Pathways Pledge?

If your worksite did not attend the workshop but is considering development of a wellness plan, the readiness list created by WorkWell KS will help in determining if a future Foundations workshop would be beneficial for your organization. Follow-up workshops on physical activity, tobacco cessation and healthy foods and beverages are also helpful in developing your wellness plan and are steps in fulfilling the Pathways pledge.

Contact Heal Reno County Chairperson and Pathways Grant Coordinator, Laurie Carr or WorkWell Reno County chairperson, Scott Parker with questions about Pathways Workplace Pledges and upcoming WorkWell KS workshops.
Look what's new near the Zoo! We love seeing bike repair stations popping up around town. They make our trail system more accommodating and show that our community is taking steps toward making healthy choices the easy choices! Crestview Bible Church (26th and Halstead) had a station installed as well. Read their story here.
Healthy Snacks in Vending Machines

Has your worksite been considering including healthy snack options in vending machines? If so, you might consider Go! Healthy Kansas Vending, a small business currently serving the Reno County area, which provides vending options that meet the Kansas Health Foundation’s food and beverage guidelines. Check out the company’s website here and contact company president, Kristin Baker at 316.323.5151 with questions.
