February Board Meeting Highlights

On Tuesday, February 21st the MESD Board met in its regular session.

Board Receives Helensview Pens: As part of Board appreciation month MESD board members were presented with custom pen and pencil sets crafted by Helensview students.
Student Scholarships: Oregon School Boards Association presented a five thousand dollar check to the Board to support scholarships for local students. The Board has received and will be reviewing the applications for the scholarships.
 
At its February meeting, the MESD adopted this Sanctuary Proclamation:
Rights of Undocumented Students and Protocols for ICE Access to Schools

Multnomah ESD goes to Salem: The legislative committee shared that on April 26th students and staff from Helensview, Arata Creek/Burlingame Creek, and school health services will be traveling to the capitol to speak with legislators about ESD schools, programs, and services.
 
Classified Employee Appreciation Week: March 6-10th is Classified Employee Week. The Board adopted a proclamation of appreciation for classified employees. Stay tuned for a video about the proclamation in March.
 
Local Service Plan adopted: The Local Service Plan provides the description of services the ESD offers to component districts to serve students. The MESD Board and all component school district board develop the local service plan every year and adopt the plan. 
 
Approval of 14 Hour Inclement Weather Waiver: The inclement weather days impacted the state mandated instruction time for students.  While MESD is working to restore as much instruction time as possible it is necessary to request a waiver of some of the time from the department of education.
