On April 25, In partnership with American Reading Company, members of the MESD community engaged in discussions about promoting excellence through equity in Oregon schools.
The event was facilitated by Dr. Pedro Noguera and Amelia Van Name Larson.
Participants focused on a coherent instructional guidance system, ongoing development of the professional capacity of staff, strong parent-community-school ties, a student-centered learning climate, and shared leadership to drive culture.
Participants collaborated to identify gaps, apply new knowledge, and plan to develop systems and structures that will ensure access and equity for all students.
Pedro Noguera is a Distinguished Professor of Education in the Graduate School of Education and Information Sciences at UCLA. His research focuses on the ways in which schools are influenced by social and economic conditions, as well as by demographic trends in local, regional, and global contexts.
