MESD School Improvement hosts successful assessment literacy workshop for regional educators
Submitted by: Penny Plavala
Middle and high school educators from eight districts worked together on September 27th at the Building Educator Assessment Literacy workshop. MESD Department of Instruction's Christine Otto and Penny Plavala reviewed the elements of a balanced assessment system and guided teachers in making valuable connections to classroom practice. When examining the demands of a performance task, participants reviewed skills students need, potential barriers to success, and possible instructional strategies. One teacher commented, "The information in this workshop will help me target my lesson planning to prepare students for the kinds of performance tasks on the Smarter Balanced Assessment."
