Greetings, Friends of
Kalamazoo Valley Gleaners!

This month we’ve been connecting with contractors and suppliers to solicit help renovating our building at 5541 King Highway. We also continue spreading the “Gleaner Gospel"

Here’s what’s happening:
We are encouraged and truly grateful to all of the generous contractors who recently pledged to help with renovations.

Overhead Door Company of Battle Creek is donating two dock levelers for our loading docks.

Dan Scholten of Centrie Concrete Cutting is donating concrete cutting for floor drains.

Hazelhoff Builders is donating labor to install doors, frames, hardware, and bathroom accessories.

We also met with several drywallers who have embraced our mission and will donate their labor.

We were warmly received as we presented our mission to Third Christian Reformed Church, Westwood Christian Reformed Church, and Kiwanis Club of Kalamazoo. We also participated as an exhibitor for the annual Kalamazoo Valley Foodways Symposium, where we spoke to around a hundred people who inquired about Kalamazoo Valley Gleaners.

Jim and our friend and gleaner supporter Rick Huyser made a trip to Sus Manos Gleaners in Jenison to observe their production methods. They were pleased to find a class of enthusiastic fourth graders from a local school volunteering that afternoon. A plaque on the wall at Sus Manos recognizes Unity Christian School for processing 50,000 meals for the hungry of the world.

Gleaner production is simple enough for volunteers of all ages and abilities to participate. It’s a wonderful opportunity for children, retirees, or anyone in the community with a desire to serve. We look forward to the day when our building, too, is full of joyful volunteers working together to bring meals to those in need!

Volunteers at Sus Manos Gleaners

It has been two years since we first prayed that God would put someone in our path so we could serve him. Little did we know that God would show us this model to feed the hungry around the world. Little did we know that God would bring all of you to us. Thank you is too small a word to express how deeply we appreciate all our supporters. We have much work to do. But God is moving mountains every day.

“Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,” says the Lord Almighty. Zechariah 4:6
