Did you know the library has opened back up for browsing? For the most up-to-date information about available services visit www.nwpl.ca/covid.

Borrow a Laptop!
Chromebooks are back and are now available for 1-week loans. We've updated the terms and conditions to make borrowing these safe. Place a hold now!

No Library Card? No Problem!
Do you know someone who could use a library card? They can apply for a card online HERE and choose either an eCard (for digital resources) or a Full Membership card (for digital resources AND all physical materials).
Help Select Book Club Titles
Did you know that the NWPL has over 80 book club sets that you can borrow for your book club? Want to have a say in which books we choose? Take our survey to help decide which book club sets we should purchase.

Come Read With Us
No matter your age or reading interests, the library is happy to provide several programs to help promote a love of reading. 

New West City Reads
Join our monthly, online book club! This month we are reading Approaching Fire, a memoir by Métis poet, Michelle Porter, as she searches for her grandfather. Our online discussion takes place on May 20 at 6:30 on Zoom.

New West Cooks 
New West Cooks is your chance to celebrate all things cook books. Join us this month to share recipes for Brunch favourites, just in time for Mother’s Day! Via Zoom, May 5 from 10:30-12:00.

Young Readers Book Club Expanding!
Attention young readers ages 9-12! Due to popular demand, we have expanded our Young Readers' Book Club to twice a month. Come and read a selected book and then discuss with your peers. You even get to keep the book! Meetings are either May 18 or 25, from 3:30-4:30 on Zoom.

Congratulations to This Year's RLC Participants!
This year, over 100 grade 4 & 5 New West students participated in the Reading Link Challenge! Students in teams from schools across New West read six great novels and competed in trivia challenges testing their knowledge of the books. We’d like to recognize everyone’s hard work and dedication, especially this year as the program moved online for the first time. Congratulations one and all!

WALK30 Challenge 2021
Since 2017, Burnaby and New Westminster have had a friendly challenge to see which community can walk more! Help New West win the Walk 30 Challenge Golden Shoe (again!) by registering your walking minutes between May 10 and June 13 - aim for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week! Find out more HERE.

Mayor's Food Bank Challenge
Did you know that the Greater Vancouver Food Bank distributed more than 5 million pounds of food last year in Vancouver, Burnaby, New West and the North Shore? During the month of May, the GVFB is running the Mayors' Food Bank Challenge to see which municipality can collect the most in donations. Drop off your non-perishable donations at the library or make a donation online.

Holidays and Celebrations

Eid Mubarak to all those celebrating the end of Ramadan on May 13! The library wishes joy, happiness, peace and prosperity to all.

The Library will be closed on Victoria Day, Monday, May 24. Enjoy the break and the hopefully the sunshine too!
