Geoff (Paddles) Orr – remembered
On Sunday 15th December at the Indooroopilly Golf Club a memorial service was well attended by many hockey players for South West United Masters' player Geoff Orr (aka Paddles) who passed on Tuesday 22nd October, aged 64 years.
Paddles played (mostly as a goalkeeper) with many teams over the years at all levels.
Alistair Hogg kindly supplied this photo of the mighty Mackay O50s team which competed at the 2016 State Championships held in Toowoomba that year, where Paddles gave the "thumbs up" to the team winning the Championship.
The Mackay hockey team offer their deepest condolences to Paddles' family.
Want to play MHL1 in 2020?
But your Club has no team at that level?
At the Brisbane Masters' Planning Day meeting a few weeks ago the Masters' Committee voted for the option to have 6 teams in MHL1 division for 2020.
Currently there are only 5 Clubs who have proposed a MHL1 team.
To make the 6th team, the committee is seeking nominations from players who wish to play MHL1 from the Clubs who don't have a MHL1 team nominated.
NOTE: For this to happen players need to nominate urgently. The season starts in March and there will be much to do to ensure this "Barbarians" MHL1 team can proceed – without having an adverse effect on MHL2 teams and Clubs.

Interested in playing CHL?
The Classic Hockey League (CHL) is the men's grass competition for all ages (run by the BHA).
Season runs from March to September each year.
Clubs in the existing competition include: Commercial / Norths / Pine Hills / Qld Uni / Valley.
Fixtures are always on Saturday at either 1:30pm or 3pm.
This allows players (along with their families) to plan their weekends more easily.
This CHL recruitment campaign is to encourage new players and new Clubs to participate in 2020.
As such, this is the first time of gathering a list of existing players and potential new players to the competition and will continue into 2020.
If playing a game, enjoying a beverage in a family environment on natural grass is for you, please register your interest.
All players, abilities and ages welcome.
Games are usually played at Finsbury Park, Shaw Park, Dorrington Park; or Pine Hills' home ground.
Membership fees vary from club to club, however as a general guide the cost for CHL is approx $450 for the season. Discounts for students.
Please email Rob Jones HockeyCHLinfo@gmail.com to register your interest or if you have any queries.

Jest a moment!
The Grim Reaper came for me last night, and I beat him off with a vacuum cleaner. Talk about Dyson with death.
A mate of mine recently admitted to being addicted to brake fluid. When I quizzed him on it, he reckoned he could stop at any time.
I went to the cemetery yesterday to lay some flowers on a grave. As I was standing there, I noticed four grave diggers walking about with a coffin, three hours later and they're still walking about with it. I thought to myself, they've lost the plot!!
My daughter asked me for a pet spider for her birthday, so I went to our local pet shop and they were $70!!!  Blow this, I thought, I can get one cheaper off the web.
I was at an ATM yesterday when a little old lady asked if I could check her balance, so I pushed her over.
I start a new job in Seoul next week. I thought it was a good Korea move.
I was driving this morning when I saw an RACQ van parked. The driver was sobbing uncontrollably and looked very miserable. I thought to myself that guy's heading for a breakdown!
Statistically, 6 out of 7 dwarves are not Happy.
My neighbour knocked on my door at 2:30am this morning, can you believe that 2:30am? Luckily for him I was still up playing my bagpipes.
Paddy says "Mick, I'm thinking of buying a Labrador."  Bugger that" says Mick "have you seen how many of their owners go blind?"
I saw a poor old lady fall over today on the footpath! At least I presume she was poor – she only had $1.20 in her purse.
My girlfriend thinks that I'm a stalker. Well, she's not exactly my girlfriend – yet!
A wife says to her husband you're always pushing me around and talking behind my back. He says what do you expect? You're in a wheelchair.
I was explaining to my wife last night that when you die you get reincarnated but must come back as a different creature. She said she would like to come back as a cow. I said you're obviously not listening.
The wife has been missing a week now. Police said to prepare for the worst. So, I have been to the charity shop to get all her clothes back.
