Sept. 18, 2022
Dear First Evangelical Free of McKeesport,
Congratulations as you celebrate 140 years of gospel ministry as a church. We thank God that you are, as your building declares, still “holding forth the word of life” (Phil. 2:16). You are one of the oldest, ongoing churches in the EFCA.
First in Swedish, now in English, you have a wonderful heritage of being a shining gospel outpost for your community (Matt. 5:13-16). Beyond that, you have had a significant impact regionally, in the Allegheny District, nationally, and internationally. Among other things, your church helped start the EFCA Churches in the mountain region of Kentucky. Thank you.
So much has changed since your founding in 1882. (Chester A. Arthur was President, no one had heard of cars, planes, KDKA, or the internet.) However, we rejoice that God and His gospel have not changed.
May the Lord be honored as you continue to live out your mission of guiding “people into becoming healthy followers of Jesus Christ”. May He answer your prayers and fulfill your vision to “see people know God’s life changing power and love, grow in community, and live out his truth daily”.
Please receive 1 Corinthians 15:58
“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (CSB)
Honored to be holding forth the word of life with you,
Kerry S. Doyal
Superintendent of the EFC’s Allegheny District
