Updates from the Scenic Wild Delaware River

On April 24, the SWDR Geotourism Stewardship Council met at The Settlers Inn in Hawley, PA. The Council is comprised of about three dozen organizations from across our nine-county, three-state region. News from that meeting:

• Bryan Cope (PA), Elaine Giguere (NY), and Brienne Rosner (NJ) will be staying on another year as our dynamic leadership team. Thank you!

• Watch next month's newsletter for an announcement about our fall geotourism conference!

• Coming soon—more upgrades to the SWDR MapGuide, including a new map on the home page and an emphasis on videos throughout the site. Have videos to share? Let us know.

Check out our Action Opportunities page. Volunteer or support one of our region's fine conservation, education, and cultural organizations, such as the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference. Since 1920, the Conference has used volunteer power to keep hiking trails open, safe, and enjoyable.
The Local Voices section of the SWDR MapGuide is where residents and celebrities tell visitors more about what is unique and special—and what we love—about our river, our region, and our way of life.

Who do you know who has something to say? Do you have short, high-quality videos that address one of our themes? Send your suggestions to Michele Archie.
This Memorial Day weekend, head to the Pocono Environmental Education Center for the Spring Fling Weekend

An April 24 ribbon-cutting ceremony at Kirkridge Retreat Center atop Kittatinny Ridge celebrated the purchase of nearly 1,300 acres forming the backbone of Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge. This largest preserved land acquistion in Lehigh Valley (PA) history protects five miles of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and provides a direct connection to Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

Learn more here, including which members of Congress to contact in support of tapping the Land and Water Conservation Fund—from offshore oil and gas royalties—to purchase an additional 3,600 acres for the refuge. USFWS photo
