Bildrausch Filmfest

Basel 2021

The pleasure of the analogue…
Bildrausch Filmfest is a festival as intimate as it is precious: on the little piazza in front of the Stadtkino Basel one has the possibility to meet and converse with internationally renowned filmmakers, a privilege that only few festivals can offer today.
The majority of them have taken the chance to pay a visit to Basel, and it has been a pure joy to celebrate cinema without social distancing.

and the advantages of the digital
In this delicate year of recovery from the pandemic, the Bildrausch Filmfest has also gone hybrid, proposing a digital streaming of some of its films (on the platform and integrating a programme of digital discussions with the filmmakers. Also, in collaboration with KultKino, FILMEXPLORER has teamed up to design the entire conception of this first hybrid version by focusing on a sustainable matrix model.
Focuses and homages
The 2021 edition of Bildrausch Filmfest has allowed us to better know and honour the artistic work of several filmmakers, from the duo Khalil Joreige and Joana Hadjithomas and their performative archaeology to Ludwig Wüst and his intriguing experiments, from Bill Morrison and his creative sound world to Dominik Graf, whose last masterpiece, Fabian oder der Gang vor die Hunde, has been shown at a Swiss premiere.
Pamela Jahn met and interviewed the actor Albrecht Schuch for FILMEXPLORER.

FILMEXPLORER had already discovered Felix Dufour-Laperrière’s amazing work of animation with his Ville Neuve, and the retrospective that the festival has dedicated to him allowed us to discover his wonderful recent Archipel.
Cinema of experience, film as work of art…

The Bildrausch Filmfest is known for its impeccable selection, under the responsibility of Beat Schneider, Nicole Reinhardt and the international programming team.
FILMEXPLORER’s own selection of films and their critical discussion will stress the variety of forms and aesthetic, the vision of film as a work of art, and the cinema as a place for challenging experiences.
…and occasion for a critical exchange
FILMEXPLORER had the opportunity to meet and interview Norika Sefa (Looking for Venera), Shahram Mokri (Careless Crime), Tim Leyendekker (Feast), and Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese (This Is not a Burial, It’s a Resurrection). The audio-interviews will be soon published on FILMEXPLORER’s podcast channel.

Together with Dominik Graf’s and Felix Dufour-Laperrière’s films, here are six…
