Donors help us say, 'Welcome to OneHeart!'

Many generous donors on Giving Tuesday and throughout this holiday season have boosted OneHeart’s Guest Welcome Fund, helping OneHeart provide a warm reception to all new enrollees when they move onto campus.

Giving Tuesday on Nov. 30 brought in $6,750 to the fund, including $2,000 in matching funds from an anonymous donor. OneHeart’s Board of Directors was especially giving on Giving Tuesday, with every director on the 11-member board making a contribution.

South Dakota Mines’ Residence Life department raised both awareness and additional welcome items for OneHeart with their entry in the university’s annual Parade of Trees this month. The theme of this year’s event was “The Giving Tree,” and each participating group chose a nonprofit to highlight and to receive items collected as part of their displays.

The Residence Life tree, full of heart-themed decorations, received the “Best Representation of the Organization" award, and in true engineering fashion, it even featured a 3D-printed tree topper with the OneHeart logo that currently tops a large tree in the lobby of OneHeart’s residential towers.

“The outpouring of support for OneHeart these last few weeks is almost overwhelming,” said Julie Oberlander, community outreach and donor engagement coordinator. “We loved (pun intended) the OneHeart-inspired Residence Life tree at Mines and, of course, all the donations they collected that will fill Guest Welcome baskets in the new year.”

Oberlander says several packages have been delivered to OneHeart recently without any information about who sent them.

“Sometimes we don’t know who to thank,” she said. “But if you’ve made purchases from our Guest Welcome registry that were sent directly to OneHeart, please know we appreciate you thinking of us and our guests. We are definitely feeling the love this holiday season!”

Bears, bears everywhere!  'Rush Gives Back' to OneHeart kids

The Rapid City Rush’s "Rush Gives Back" night on Dec. 11 was wildly successful, with the Rush skating away with the win, and a couple thousand stuffed animals to give to local kids.

The Rush scored their first goal just over a minute into the game, cueing the annual "Teddy Bear Toss," where fans throw plush toys onto the ice.
The Rush, with the help of representatives from Black Hills Corporation, delivered a few dozen stuffed animals to the children at OneHeart on Dec. 15.

Thank you to all who contributed to the Teddy Bear Toss – and GO RUSH!
RC 100 Grant Award

A heartfelt "thank you" goes out to Rapid City 100, a project of Leadership Rapid City's Class of 2019, and to everyone who donated and voted during the Nov. 4 community giving event. OneHeart was honored to receive a $1,000 grant for our transportation program.

Congratulations to fellow finalists Wellfully ($2,000) and Fork Real Community Cafe ($1,000) for receiving grants as well. Certainly well deserved!
