2021 Summer food sites for kids open June 1

More than 10 sites in the Rapid City area will provide free summer meals to kids starting Tuesday, June 1, as part of the USDA's Summer Food Service Program.

All of the sites serve lunch; about half serve breakfast too; and senior adults, ages 60 and older, who accompany children to these locations can eat for free as well, thanks to partnerships between the agencies and Meals on Wheels Western South Dakota.

Finding (and keeping) volunteers
A blog by Jodi Litz, Development Specialist for Meals on Wheels Western South Dakota and a participant in the Collective Impact Food Security Initiative, was published earlier this spring by Innovate NonProfit.

Jodi discusses the challenges organizations face in attracting volunteers, but also some strategies that have proven helpful for getting volunteers and keeping them - such as the "Friends of Food Security" volunteer incentive program.

Emerging Leaders officially complete program

Almost exactly one year from the date they were supposed to complete the program, members of Cadre 3 of the John T. Vucurevich Emerging Leaders Fellowship Program finally were able to gather and celebrate their accomplishment at a dinner on April 15.

The 30 participants spent a year learning about the collective impact process for solving complex social problems and working in small groups that contributed to various aspects of the OneHeart campus.

Congratulations, Emerging Leaders!
