We are thrilled to present this new series of podcasts dedicated to the 3Rs centres in Europe. For this first episode, we take you to Norway to meet Adrian Smith, director of Norecopa who explains the creation of the Norvegian 3Rs centre, the impact of the European Directive on animal used for scientific purposes and who Norecopa is doing to promote replacement, reduction and refinement of animals in science.
PrecisionTox, a major research project to shape regulation and policy on chemical safety without the use of animal testing, kicked off on the 29th of March. The consortium members, 15 EU and US organisations, obtained a €19.3M grant from the European Commission H2020 Programme. During this five-year project, Altertox will be responsible for coordinating and implementing the communication and dissemination strategy of the consortium.
The 11th of March marked the eighth anniversary of the EU cosmetics animal testing ban. However, the scope of the ban is being threatened by several decisions of the European Chemical Agency which reintroduce unnecessary animal experimentation on ingredients exclusively used in cosmetics. Animal protection organisations have joined forces to urge the EU to call off new cosmetics tests on animals in an open letter to the President of the European Commission.
