December 2018                                                              Volume 1, Issue 4
‘Tis the season for tidings of good will and gestures of gratitude . . . But, did you know as public servants Library staff cannot accept gifts of any kind from patrons?  This includes cookies, candies, and other gifts.  Library staff are employed by Collier County Government and as such are public servants to residents and visitors.  While everyone hates the cliché, it’s true—we’re just doing our job.

So what can you do to show your appreciation to staff at your local library?  Visit our libraries an extra day out of your normal routine, check out five more books, attend a holiday program, and spread smiles.  Better yet, a gesture that goes even further, write a commendation for your library or a specific staff person detailing how we exceeded your expectations.  Comments for gratitude can be made through the Library’s website at  Staff and libraries are in turn recognized through the County’s VIP Recognition Program.

Visit us and visit us often this holiday season.  Library staff look forward to seeing you!

Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Partnership

Did you know the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation wants to better understand the challenges and issues affecting Collier County residents?  The Collier County Public Library in collaboration with the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation are hosting public forums at Headquarters Library to better understand these challenges and issues affecting our community.

This month the foundation is focusing on recreation and leisure. From beaches to ballet, there’s a wellspring of recreation and leisure activities in Collier County. But not all residents believe there’s adequate access and availability to local amenities.

Wondering what to do in Collier County for recreation and leisure? Join us for a free community forum to learn more about this topic on Tuesday, December 11th from 5-6pm at the Collier County Headquarters Library. Hear from community leaders and nonprofits working to expand local options for recreation, arts and culture. The public forum is hosted by the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation to identify resources and gaps from the Community Needs and Assets Assessment.
Public Forum Topics and Discussions throughout the year will include:
Employment/Economic Opportunity

The Young Adult Room at Headquarters Regional Library is almost complete! We are excited to announce that most of our new furniture has arrived. Some of the new items we received include dry erase tables, contemporary lounge furniture, and cool colorful chairs. In the next few weeks, we will install a brand new 65-inch TV and PlayStation 4 gaming console. Our goal is to have all of our improvements completed by February. In the meantime come in and check out our new additions!

Elizabeth has been a volunteer at the Estates Branch for nine years. She had visited the branch frequently before that, when one day she saw an older librarian struggling to be able to shelve on the lower shelves. She felt that was something she could help with, and since she already had a deep love of libraries she jumped at the chance to volunteer.

She loves the Collier County library system, especially because she has seen that they work to get anything their patrons need. At any of the locations, she always finds helpful librarians with smiles on their faces that know her name and the names of other patrons. The library provides a warm, welcoming place full of resources for everyone. She is very thankful to everyone that contributes to the success of the library system.
