Monthly Newsletter

Simply Jesus.

"Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" John 14:6

Note from Erik

Before the letter you received from Chris Thomas last month, it had been close to a year since you had heard from us regularly. My hope is to be in touch with you monthly, offering a devotional as well as various updates and prayer requests for us as a ministry. By way of introduction, the first devotional will be from me.

Do you ever wake up in the morning feeling like you can’t move into the day, that you don’t have what it takes, and you just feel like staying right where you are? Does your bed ever feel like the most secure and safe place for your mind, your heart, and your soul? Before you even take your first “step” into the day, do you ever feel you’re already defeated?
My wife Sarah and I have had the privilege of being here on staff at Ravencrest for the past 11 ½ years. We arrived on October 1st, 2007 with a U-Haul truck, a Honda Accord, and our precious two-month old daughter Catherine. We have since been blessed with 5 other children; Camille (10), Jack (9), Jude (7), Quinn (5), and Sadie (3). What a joy they are!!!
Since our arrival, we have had many wonderful days filled with the Lord’s goodness, love and care. To be honest though, there have also been many hard days. Days where I would have much preferred to stay in bed. Days I would rather have curled up under the covers and not faced the day before me. Days in which I felt completely inadequate. Days I knew I didn’t have what it takes. Do you ever have those days?
I feel the Lord has spent the last 11 ½ years of my life making sure I know I don’t have what it takes for each day. But He hasn’t just left me there. It is clear I don’t have what it takes for each day, but He does! He hasn’t just been waiting for me to learn that I am inadequate, He was been wanting me to trust just how sufficient He is!

My inadequacy, His sufficiency. Seems like a good recipe for the Christian life to me. Get me out, Get Him in! The more inadequate I learn I am, the more faithfully sufficient He proves Himself to be.

Introducing myself to you as the new Director of Ravencrest Chalet is truly a great honor and privilege. But with that introduction, I make a promise that if I were to lead Ravencrest upon my own strength and self-sufficiency, then the best you would get is me. But my hope and prayer is that all of us Ravencrest staff acknowledge our inadequacies, and trust in the Lord’s sufficiency, so that He will be seen. All of this becomes about Him, for Him, and He can be the one being seen, not us. We know we have nothing of value to offer besides the Lord Himself, but our deep desire is for those who come here to see the Lord Jesus as He would desire to be seen. Join with us in prayer, dependency, obedience and celebration for ALL that the Lord Jesus desires to do in and through this ministry…His ministry.
As we all wake up tomorrow morning, may we recognize that it is not our day our way, but that it’s His day and He’s the Way.
PS. If you’re interested in knowing my heart for the direction (which way) we should head as a ministry, it’s simple…it’s Jesus. Simply Jesus.

Chalet Bathroom Remodel

Our maintenance team did an amazing job giving the first floor Chalet bathroom a much needed makeover!

We were so fortunate to receive an incredibly generous donation of archery equipment at the beginning of the summer. This has allowed us to offer archery as a new weekly activity for our summer camps!

Millie Carpenter

Millie joined the staff at Ravencrest two years ago as the Domestics Supervisor after her year as a student. She has just been promoted to Hospitality Manager; a true reflection of her desire to lovingly welcome and serve all of our guests.

God's Provision

We are confident that the Lord is fully aware of all of our needs as an organization. The Lord has proven Himself faithful in His provision, and we trust He will continue to do so. We simply want to make you aware of some of the needs we are trusting Him for:
  • Students for Bible School and camp groups for our summer programs
  • The purchase of a 15 passenger van and a work truck
  • Repair of two water tanks for campus buildings
  • Roofs (2) - a staff house and our Student Center
  • Scholarship funds (We’re seeking to grow a fund that allows us to support 2 1/2 extra students each Bible School year with financial needs and also have the ability to sponsor people attending our retreats)

Pray With Us

We are so grateful for how the Lord has been more than sufficient for our small group of summer program interns and large groups of campers this summer.
The Lord has worked powerfully in the hearts of our campers and interns this summer, drawing their hearts to Him.
Please pray for our new year long interns who have just arrived or are about to arrive, that they would feel at home quickly.
Please continue to pray that the Lord would be working in the hearts of the students He wants to have at Ravencrest this year.
Our adult retreats run from July 27 – August 11, pray for the speakers to deliver God’s message to the attendees, and for hearts to be encouraged in His truth.
