Hello everyone and welcome to our second quarterly newsletter.

Can you believe that Kiwi Hearing will be celebrating our 1st Birthday in April? We wish to thank you all for your support over the year.

If there are topics of special interest that you would like us to cover in one of our newsletters then please email us at: cj@kiwihearing.nz and we will try our best to include it.

Hearing Health Tip of the Quarter:

The inner ear is extremely sensitive to blood flow.  Studies show that a healthy cardiovascular system – a person’s heart, arteries and veins – has a positive effect on hearing.  Inadequate blood flow and trauma to the blood vessels of the inner ear can contribute to hearing loss.  If you have cardiovascular issues, it could be worthwhile having a hearing assessment. Call us to make a time today.
Blocked ears?

Earwax buildup can be the reason for a hearing loss. An excess of this protective, waxy substance can lead to painful earaches and temporary hearing loss. In some cases, a build up of wax can also lead to tinnitus, a high-pitched ringing in your ears. Removal of the blockage may restore normal hearing.
How to treat it:
Avoid using cotton buds or other pointed objects to try to remove the blockage, as you may push it in deeper or puncture your eardrum.  Microsuction is the recommended best practice method of removing debris and wax from the ear canal. If you think you may have wax, our Ear Care Nurse can remove it for you. Call 04 293 4170 to make an appointment. As the saying goes … never put anything bigger than your elbow in your ear!

Joke of the Quarter:
An elderly gentleman had had serious hearing problems for a number of years.  He went to the audiologist who was able to fit him with a pair of hearing aids that allowed him to hear again.
The gentleman went back a month later and the audiologist said “your hearing is good since we fitted the hearing aids; your family must be really pleased that you can hear again”.
The gentleman replied “oh I haven’t told them yet – I just sit around and listen to the conversations.  I’ve changed my Will three times already!”
Remember ~ untreated hearing loss affects quality of life,
as well as physical and mental health.
