Welcome to our first edition of the newsletter for Contemplative Outreach Lexington! CO-Lex is now one of 120+ active chapters in 39 countries formed by Contemplative Outreach, Ltd., a worldwide spiritual network that provides support and resources for Centering Prayer. CO, Ltd. is dedicated to the renewal of the Christian contemplative tradition through the practice of Centering Prayer. F. Thomas Keating, OCSO, is a founding member and the spiritual guide of Contemplative Outreach.
Sr. Jean Johnson of Loretto led Lexington's first CO Introductory Workshop in February, 2002, and has devoted her time and many talents to supporting centering prayer in our area. At this time, we have six CO Centering Prayer groups in Lexington.
The Lexington Chapter was sponsored by Contemplative Outreach Chapter of Kentucky (CO-KY), housed in the Cor Unum Spiritual Center in Louisville. Over the past 25 years, CO-KY has held numerous Centering Prayer retreats and events, and hosted speakers such as Thomas Keating, Carl Arico and others. CO-KY cooperated with us to bring Father William Meninger to The Church of the Good Shepherd in 2014. We recognize our close relationship with CO-KY, and look forward to working together for years to come. Lexington became a Chapter on June 11, 2016 after a Visioning Day led by Susan Komis. Father Tom Ward led a community-wide Introductory Workshop in April, hosted by Fr. Brian Cole of The Church of the Good Shepherd. Dr. Elizabeth Conrad, Minister of Education at Christ Church Cathedral, joined Contemplative Outreach in 2014 after facilitating a centering prayer group for well over a decade. We are ever-so-grateful for the support of all who nurtured our community into a Chapter.
We are also thankful for our new Lexington Leadership Team, and a special thanks to the publicity team, Heather and Pat Davey, for creating this beautiful newsletter and the website currently under construction!
We also want to thank the parishes that have provided meeting space, including Pax Christi, Christ the King, The Newman Center, Christ Church Cathedral, The Church of the Good Shepherd, St. Martha's and St. Michael's.
Please join us for any Lexington Centering Prayer Group. All are welcome!
