It has been a year since SPPA launched in 2017

On 21st February 2017, SPPA launched at the British Academy with an insightful interview with British Poet Lemn Sissay MBE and Professor Becky Francis of UCL Institute of Education, on 'social disadvantage and the power of education to change it'.

Since then, SPPA has made great strides in recruiting Founding Members, supporting the launch of the Level 3 & 5 Diplomas in Social Pedagogy, appointing new Trustees and hosting our first AGM event and SPPA Conference in London. With your help and support in achieving this, we hope to replicate this success in 2018 and continue to make an impact across the UK.

We are pleased to confirm that this year's AGM and SPPA Conference will be held in Edinburgh on Friday 28th September 2018 at The Royal College of Surgeons, Playfair Building, Nicolson Street, Edinburgh EH8 9DW

If you had missed the SPPA Launch in 2017 or would like a recap of the interview between Lemn Sissay MBE and Professor Becky Francis, click 'Read more' below.

Qualifications Open Session in Social Pedagogy

Social Pedagogy is an emerging field in the UK but well established in continental Europe, where theory and practice is concerned with finding solutions to social problems through an educational lens.

“The UK is catching up fast to the power of social pedagogy. It is a cogent approach that allows practitioners to powerfully understand how change occurs and to bring together ‘thinking’ with direct practice between human beings in a range of social situations. It has powerful personal and social impact and deserves to be better understood and utilised.”

Dave Hill – Executive Director Social Care and Education Essex County Council, past President of ADCS

This free-to-attend 2 hour session will offer an overview of social pedagogy, some of the qualifications available and the impact learners’ developed practice has on outcomes, team work and organisational culture.

SPPA now offers learning programme endorsement

The Social Pedagogy Professional Association is the professional home and centre of excellence for social pedagogy, its theory and practice. We hold the Standards for Occupational Proficiency (SOPs), and Standards of Education and Training (SETs) in social pedagogy.

As part of this, we endorse, and maintain a register of learning programmes (short courses, NVQs, University degrees) which demonstrate that they offer high quality learning in social pedagogy.

Any organisation wishing to have their learning programme approved by SPPA will need to ensure that it meets our SETs, and in some cases, that it equips learners to meet the Standards of Proficiency in social pedagogy.

As a result of endorsement you can advertise your course as being endorsed by SPPA, with the opportunity to use our logo on your marketing materials. Find out more on our website, where you can download a self-assessment form for your learning programme.
