Scottish Social Pedagogy Open Space Gathering

28th January 2020
Perthshire, Scotland

This wonderful event that took place last month at Ochil Tower school was a big success. Around 50 delegates from across a variety of sectors took part in sharing their vision for social pedagogy within practice in Scotland and exploring ways in which this could be implemented.
Four key themes emerged from the day:
  • Creating a Scottish social pedagogy model of practice
  • Practice Inspiration
  • Networking & sharing of practice
  • Training and learning from each other
A small group of delegates has taken on the role of organising the next event later in the year.
Elaine Hamilton, current SPPA trustee and Service Manager for Nether Johnstone House, together with a group of enthusiastic people helped to organize this event. The group was made up of people with an interest in developing social pedagogy knowledge and practices within Scotland.

Lampland UAS’ International Week:

Promoting awareness of Social Pedagogy internationally

February 24th - 28th
Kemi, Finland

Lapland UAS’ international week is an event promoted by Erasmus that offers an exciting opportunity to meet colleagues from around the globe, network, teach and plan future in the Nordic atmosphere.
Yvalia Febrer, current SPPA Trustee and Leader of Kingston University’s BA Working With Children & Young People: Social Pedagogy programme, will attend this event and will give a lecture to international colleagues from around the globe on the emergence of Social Pedagogy in the UK and the work that SPPA is undertaking to promote this.
She will present the changes that Kingston made to their degree course in order to successfully achieve endorsement from SPPA, which has led to the first ever cohort of Social Pedagogy Practitioners graduating from an Undergraduate degree in the UK in July 2019.

Kingston University already receives Erasmus students onto the BA Working With Children & Young People: Social Pedagogy programme each year, and in exchange sends students to partner institutions across Europe offering equivalent learning and practice experience. Yvalia’s aim is to internationally promote the awareness of how Social Pedagogy is gaining significant ground in the UK, and explain SPPA’s important role in this.

April 3rd, 2020, 11:00 - 15:30 h
UCL, Institute of Education, London

This Social Pedagogy event is organized by SPPA in collaboration with Thomas Coram Research Unit (UCL, Institute of Education). It seeks to draw together Social Pedagogy concepts and practice from Germany and England.

We are delighted to have Prof. Christian Spatscheck from Bremen City University as a special guest.
This unique event will include different interactive sessions in which the attendees will have the opportunity to reflect on their own practice and explore the links and divergences of Social Pedagogy in both countries and internationally.

This event is for both members and non-members. It will be particularly relevant for students, practitioners and academics interested in Social Pedagogy, social work, foster care, young people care, participation and rights. Yet, everyone wanting to know more about Social Pedagogy is also welcome!
