'Where is Wally' revisited

Hats off to UNWomen Egypt for their original campaign Finding her, which uses the popular Where is Wally illustration style to point out how difficult it is to find women in technology, science and politics in Egypt. And because it's the International Women's Day, let's keep the spotlight on UNWomen: check out this beautifully designed platform presenting some quite unsettling figures on humanitarian assistance and gender equality.

Worst view in the world

A new hotel has opened in Bethlehem, Palestine, and it's not the Waldorf, but The Walled Off Hotel, the creation of one of the world's most incisive artists: Banksy. It's located only 4 meters away from the wall that cuts through the occupied West Bank and all the rooms face it. This initiative embodies once again Banksy's criticism to war and cynical geopolitics. “(It’s) a three-storey cure for fanaticism, with limited car parking,” he says.

February aftermath

For those lucky enough to live in Geneva, February was a month packed with great talks. Firstly, our own UN Designers Lunch gathered around 25 visual communicators who had the chance to hear Ross Thornley, from RT Brand Communications, who delivered an eloquent and entertaining presentation on rebranding a UN organization. A low-res of the presentation can be downloaded here. Please send us feedback about this talk or suggestions for future ones.

The second talk was organized by the Geneva Digital Strategy and UX Meetup group, and introduced us to Scott David's extensive work for WEF, and to Dante Licona's (WHO) view on how to bust the myth of UN organizations' slow response to events by using the right social media tools. 'Keep 'em coming', please!

March Inspiration
A festival
The FIFDH (International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights) is back to Geneva from 10 to 19 March, with a programme full of interesting subjects, including a discussion on the role of UN.
A workshop
Good (looking) news: there’s still time to sign-up for Dave McCandless' (the designer behind Information is Beautiful), workshop on data visualization next April, in London.
A magazine
Positive News is set up for possibly the toughest goal in the world: to publish a magazine with only positive stories on it. Help them achieve it by purchasing their latest issue (we already did it!)
A talk
And if you can't make it to London, then we strongly recommend you to attend this other talk on information design by the Berlin-Geneva agency Onlab, on March 23 in Basel.
A book
Our world to change! is the brainchild of Ruedi and Vera Baur (already in our radar after their Signs for Peace) and activist movement Attac. The Revolution will be visualized.
A list
UX Myths collects a list of the 34 most frequent misconceptions about user experience and explains why they don't hold true. A word of advice though: make sure to read the myth #0.
