A Newsletter from the UN & NGOs Designers Group Geneva
Visual Communicators Newsletter
APRIL 2017

This is a monthly newsletter from the UN Designers and Visual Communicators Group in Geneva. Drop us a line if you would like to collaborate or share any material in this newsletter:

Infographics masterclass

A total of 47 lucky attendants of our last UN Designers meeting, had the chance to enjoy a very instructive talk by Thibaud Tissot from Onlab about Data visualization through the varied body of work done by the agency, from more general-public oriented work at InExtenso to complex projects such as this german stats book. Thibaud was also kind enough to share his presentation with us, so you can access it too! This is your chance to see conceptualization and design at its best.

A tale of two neighbourhoods

ICRC brings us this compeling site where, in a kind of Snowfall-meets-Humans of New York style, Director Brandon Tauszik tells us the story of two different communities divided just by one street (and one war). Great use of animated gifs and web development by humanitarian-oriented agency Fifty-Fifty

Illustrations to fight depression

7th of April is World Health Day and WHO has come up with a campaign to raise awareness about the always touchy subject of depression. The campaign, called 'Let's Talk', is based on posters by Spanish illustrator Oriol Vidal. One of the interesting aspects of this campaign is how they portrayed different cultures and sensibilities into it by representing same situations in different geographical environments.

April Inspiration
A book
Infographic books abound these days. Raw Data, from prolific design writer Steven Heller, brings us an interesting look into an infographics designers' sketchbooks
A website
The Pudding is a 'weekly journal of visual essays' that proves that everything can benefit from the use of good data visualization. Even the definition of punk
An (failed) ad
This Pepsi ad is a good reminder that trying to profit from Human Rights issues is not such a good idea. Although, as some media says,  it may have done some good after all
A visit
Fancy a trip to Milan for Easter? The Salone ends by April 9th but as part of the Triennale you could still enjoy exhibitions like Design for children for the entire month
A magazine
As its motto tells us, Good magazine tries to show us ways to 'live well. do good'. A commendable exercise, accompanied by a great use of infographics like this one
An exhibiton
For forward-thinkers and technology lovers: Act, an 'space for art, creation and technology' will be present at both Electron and Mapping festivals. Be there or be square
