A Newsletter from the UN & NGOs Designers Group Geneva
Visual Communicators Newsletter
MARCH 2018

This is a monthly newsletter from the UN Designers and Visual Communicators Group in Geneva. Drop us a line if you would like to collaborate or share any material in this newsletter:

Countdown for Equality

After winning last year a webby award with their timeline Women's footprint in history, the stakes were high for UN Women. 8th March needs no introduction, especially this year (#MeToo, #TimesUp...). And they have done it again (a timeline, we mean). The visual highlight of their #TimeisNow campaign is no other than another very well executed animated timeline about the highlights of women's activist movements in time. Love is lovelier the second time around.

A Festival, a Forum? A True Feast

In Geneva, the “international capital of human rights”, from 9-18 March, the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH) will offer you international debates, exceptional events, exhibitions and the best of international cinema dedicated to human rights. “A film, A subject, A debate “ for almost everyone. And don't be mistaken, it packs much more than just movies. You can attend illustration exhibitions that were already reviewed in this newsletter, photography or comic exhibitions too; And if you prefer to stick to films, then Ai WeiWei's Human Flow will surely be one of the highlights. And if what you really enjoy are heated debates, then you just have to queue for this one.

A Flood of Creativity

March 22nd brings us World Water day. To help us celebrate, UN Water has developed a toolkit with posters, digital cards, t-shirts, etc. with this year’s motto “The answer is in nature”. Nothing that you haven't seen before, you might say. An interesting addition to the classical items is the collage kit of image cutouts that allows you to get creative and design your own campaign visuals (as you can see by the picture above that we just created to go with this entry).
Still hungry for more inspiration? Then check out this beautiful new bi-annual publication that is exploring the beauty and complexity of all things water – Water Journal. Dedicated to the experience and cultural significance of water, it exists to tell honest stories, whether it's of a personal matter or on a global scale.
