Overview of Additive Manufacturing Processes

As EWF is more and more involved in Additive Manufacturing (AM) it is important that EWF members are aware of the developments and possibilities of AM. As part of this strategy EWF is organizing a Workshop based on CU 00 - Overview of Additive Manufacturing Processes of the AM Qualification System and we would like to see all of our members present.
The workshop will take place on the 30th of October, the day after the EWF GA, and will start at 9:00 and finish at 17:00. At the end of the workshop participants will be invited to carry out an exam and obtain a Record of Achievement for CU 00.

Fourth Edition of the AM Qualifications Workshop

Apprenticeship in the EWF System & the FSW European Qualifications
October // 30th // Oeiras, Portugal

The aim of the conference is to present the main results achieved in two European collaborative projects: WOW – Work Based Learning Opportunities in Welding & FSW-Tech – Harmonized Friction Stir Welding Technology Training across Europe.

The Quality Model developed in the WOW project aims at enhancing the cooperation between training centres, trainees engaging in apprenticeships and companies in the welding sector. This will be presented as the main outcome.

The conference is hosted by EWF, in Avenida Dr. Mario Soares, 35, TAGUS PARK, Oeiras, Workshop room in floor -1. The official language of the event is English.

November // 19-22 // Hamburg, Germany

FORMNEXT is the leading global exhibition and conference dedicated to additive manufacturing with all its upstream and downstream processes and EWF will be present at the event!

Word Manufacturing Forum 2019 - Annual Meeting

The World Manufacturing Forum happened on the 26th of September in Italy and EWF was present at the event, represented by our Deputy Director Eurico Assunção, who discussed the New Skills for Future Manufacturing, the theme of the event.

At the event we did receive some wonderful news! Firstly, EWF was referenced as being part of the experts’ group and secondly a relevant contribution was done by EWF on the main Report called “Skills for the Future of Manufacturing”.

Finally, the icing on the cake was being on the winner’s list and receiving an award! It is gratifying to see that the work done by EWF is perfectly aligned with the current industry requirements.

LASIMM had its Open Day in Pamplona, Spain!

The Open Day of LASIMM finally happened on the 24th of September in Pamplona, Spain!

The project ended last month and on September 24 the world’s largest hybrid WAAM machine was shown to an industrial audience. LASIMM is the world’s largest hybrid machine and can produce parts of up to 6 meters long and 4 meters wide. LASIMM’s machine deposited a part to an incredible audience in Pamplona!

With the acronym for Large Additive Subtractive Integrated Modular Machine, LASIMM was a European funded project focusing on the development of a large system combining additive and subtractive technologies. 

The long term goal is a system capable of producing fully finished components with high complexity, structural integrity and superior performances, straight from computer aided design (CAD) models at a high productivity rate.

Final Conference OpenHybrid

OpenHybrid has reached its end and after 3 years of hard work, excitement and several experiments… TWO MACHINES ARE READY TO OPERATE!

The final event was held at the MTC on the 18th of September! Thanks to the ones joining, specially to the presenters!



A big, special thanks to David Wimpenny & Mark Holden from the MTC for all the management and coordination, but also to TWI, ESI, BCT, PICASOFT, SIEMENS, CRF, WEIR, Fraunhofer IPT, GUDEL, GF and HMT!
