Additive Manufacturing has been a great focus of EWF since 2019.
EWF has been putting a lot of effort in developing Additive Manufacturing Qualifications.
Currently, there are seven qualifications in Metal Additive Manufacturing. Three at the Operator level and four at engineering level.
The following framework shows a comprehensive summary of AM Qualifications, as well as the corresponding competence units.

                                European / International Engineer - E/IE DED-Arc

European/International Directed Energy Deposition - Laser Beam Personnel

      > Design Metal AM solutions ensuring and validating that parts can be made cost-effective and efficiently.
      > Close PBF/ DED Processes design projects by verifying requirements for production with engineer as well as process requirements, ensuring liaison with other technical areas to sign of drawings.− Contribute to projects in a teaming environment cooperation with AM Team.

Metal AM Supervisor - professionals with the specific knowledge, skills, autonomy and responsibility to Supervise AM production on shop floor:
      > Ensure quality Procedures
      > Ensure Health & Safety Environment procedures

We have already started creating our network of AM training centres across Europe.

The first courses in the AM Qualification System, in several different places across Europe as shown in the picture,  have officially begun.

Upcoming training courses:

  • The LZH laser centre in Hannover will test the Competence Unit (CU) 08 DED-LB Process;
  • Operator PBF-LB courses will take place between September 7th-11th, 2020 at the IFW in Jena, Germany;
  • Throughout 2020, several Supervisor Qualifications will take place in Germany

Michal Kubica, EWF's President announced this March:
"Considering the exceptional circumstances existing in Europe due to the COVID-19 outbreak, EWF's Board Members decided to cancel the meetings of EWF Board and General Assembly planned for 25th and 26th May 2020 in Seville.
The EWF Board suggests to all EWF members to replace the planned EWF General Assembly meeting by an online meeting, with reduced agenda that would address the most relevant and urgent items to be decided and/or approved by the General Assembly"
EWF members agreed to hold the EWF General Assembly online on the 26th May 2020.
As well the EWF Board of Directors meeting will be taking place online on the 25th May 2020.
Further details of organization and agenda for both meetings will be send to EWF members in the upcoming days.
