Pic of the Week
A look into the life of the church

We had a fantastic time at our Fat Ash Wednesday Pancake Supper last week enjoying delicious food, playing bingo, and tossing pancakes for our pancake games. The fun was followed by our Ash Wednesday service to transition us into Lent. Thank you to Doug Lyon, who ran the griddle producing piles of pancakes, as well as Carolyne and Neil Rostick, Lauren Winterrowd, Elena Greve, and Abby and Ian Lewis, who helped set up and worked in the kitchen.

Do you have a picture of something that you would like to share with the Congregation? Email it to Lindsay and we can share it as our pic of the week and continue to stay connected with each other.

As a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, she embraces the notion that plants and animals are our oldest teachers. In Braiding Sweetgrass, Kimmerer brings these lenses of knowledge together to show that the awakening of a wider ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgment and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world. For only when we can hear the languages of other beings are we capable of understanding the generosity of the earth, and learning to give our own gifts in return. There is also a Young Adult version also available for discussion with youth.  Sign up online
Notes From The Church Dog
Because somebody has to run this church...
There was so much going on at the church this past week, that I decided to turn my column over to covering our first annual church variety show, "The Congregational Church Follies". Lent is about connection, and our variety show was all about building community. It was such a talented group! There were singers, poets, comedians, instrumentalists, and storytellers. Thank you Dr. Lyle and Patty Short for organizing! And, thank your to our performers for being so willing to share your gifts. It was truly a fun-filled Sunday afternoon.
Wishing you all the toys and pets,

Movie Screening: The Ants and the Grasshopper
March 1, 2023 at 7:00 PM
Join us online for a free screening of an acclaimed documentary that follows the life of the inspiring Anita Chitaya. After successfully confronting challenge after challenge in her home country of Malawi, Chitaya comes to the United States faced with the most difficult task of her life. In order to save her home from extreme weather, she seeks to persuade people in the United States that climate change is real. The film documents her efforts as she travels around the country from California to the White House to engage everyone from climate skeptics to despairing farmers.

The documentary has received numerous film festival awards and accolades. Journalist Michael Pollen declared that he was “blown away” by this powerful film about “a hero of such grace and intelligence and power.”

This event is cohosted by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Green Chalice Ministries, the Environmental Justice Ministries of the United Church of Christ, and Blessed Tomorrow. Register here.
