Election Day is
Tuesday, November 6
Early Voting/Vote-by-Mail Before

Don't forget to vote! In Illinois, eligible voters must be registered  – but you can register right up until Election Day. In fact, in Illinois you can appear at your appropriate polling place on Tuesday, November 6 and cast a ballot regardless of your registration status. (However, you must then appear at the County Clerk's office with the appropriate identification to complete your voter registration over the next several days or your ballot will not be counted.)

Voters also have a number of options for casting their ballots, including early voting, vote-by-mail and traditional in-person voting on November 6. Note that while you can complete voter registration online, you cannot vote online – regardless of what some sketchy Facebook posts may indicate. Check out these resources for more information:

  • Several referenda will appear on ballots, depending on where you live. Governing bodies generally provide details about their requests. For instance, information on the two Hawthorn District 73 referenda is available at
  • Visit Voter Power to check your registration status, poll location and specific ballot assigned to your address.
  • Vote on Election Day, November 6, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the specific polling place assigned to your address.
  • Early Voting is available at several sites around the County.
  • Voting by Mail is another convenient option for casting your ballot.
  • Register to Vote in several ways, including on-line, in person, and at Early Voting sites.
  • You may also register on November 6 (Election Day) at the polling place assigned to your address – your ballot will be held a short time until proper identification is provided to the County Clerk's office.
  • Remember, if you have a change in name or address, you will need to re-register.
  • Registration requires documents showing proof of identification and residence.
  • The October 2018 Vernon Hills Update includes a Voting Info segment.
  • More information is available through the Lake County Illinois Clerk's Office Voter Services webpage.
  • REMINDER: The polling location previously located at the Laschen Center, and then the lower level of Village Hall, has been more permanently relocated to the main level of the Village Hall, off the entrance lobby.

Next Village Board Meetings:

  • Wednesday, November 7

  • Tuesday, November 20

  • Tuesday, December 11

  • Please note that the next Village Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 7 due to Election Day being on Tuesday of that week. There is only one meeting scheduled for December.
  • The full Meeting Schedule is available on the Meeting Schedules webpage.
  • Meetings begin at 7 p.m. and are held at Village Hall, 290 Evergreen Drive at Route 45 unless otherwise noted.

A Few Items of Interest...

  • Polling Place Change: Trustees remind voters who previously voted at the Laschen Center, and then in the lower level of the Village Hall, that their new polling place is located on the main level of the Village Hall, just off the entrance lobby.
  • Village Smoke Free Ordinance Updates: During the October 17 Board Meeting, Trustees discussed updates to the Village's existing Tobacco 21 Ordinance. The current ordinance restricts sales of tobacco-related items to age 21 and over. Verbiage was updated to encompass all manner of smoking-related products, including JUULs, vape pens and other similar items. Trustees also debated raising the age of legal possession to 21. While Board Members agree the ultimate goal is to support healthy habits, a key point of discussion revolves around the enforceability of a lower age of possession, especially when communities around us recognize 18 as the age for lawful possession. Staff was directed to draw up alternative wording options, which Trustees will revisit at a future meeting. (Village Board 10-17-2018)
  • Regional 911: Vernon Hills is working with Lake County and other participating jurisdictions to plan for regional consolidation of 911 emergency dispatch services. During the October 17 meeting, Trustees approved an intergovernmental agreement to support these efforts. (Village Board 10-17-2018)
  • American Hotel Register Tax Sharing Request: Representatives from American Hotel Register approached the board with a request to share back tax receipts to help fund improvements to the organization's facilities, with the ultimate goal of attracting employees. Trustees expressed gratitude for the many generous contributions AHR has made to Vernon Hills and the wider community, however they expressed concern in setting such a precedent. Mayor Roger Byrne suggested that representatives of AHR and the Village meet to further discuss the company's needs and concerns. (Village Board 10-17-2018)
  • Craig Warner Honored: Congratulations to long-time Vernon Hills resident Craig Warner, who will be honored as part of Illinois' 200th Birthday Celebration. Illinois Bicentennial organizers and the Illinois Department of Veteran's Affairs have selected Mr. Warner as one of 200 military veterans to be specially honored for their outstanding service and ongoing contributions to their country and their communities. Recipients will be recognized during the Bicentennial Birthday Party planned for December 3 at the United Center. (
