PPEERS Receives $1.6 Million in Continued Funding from NCASLD
Congratulations to the Principal Preparation for Excellence and Equity in Rural Schools (PPEERS) team for receiving $1.6 million in continued funding from NC Alliance for School Leadership Development (NCASLD). PPEERS is a partnership with regional rural districts and UNC Greensboro that aims to develop strong, sustainable leadership pipelines within these districts. Read more.

Dr. Holt Wilson (TEHE) Appointed as Co-Director of the Institute for Partnerships in Education (I-PiE)
The SOE is pleased to announce that Dr. Holt Wilson has been appointed as founding Faculty Co-Director for I-PiE. In his new role, Dr. Wilson aims to create resources and infrastructure to facilitate collaborative work between SOE faculty and education-related agencies. He envisions I-PiE as a hub to generate and share knowledge about establishing, supporting, and sustaining productive partnerships. Read more.
Dr. Kelly Wester (CED) Speaks on the Importance of Conversations in Education on Spectrum News 1
Dr. Kelly Wester, professor and chair of the Counseling and Educational Development (CED) department, was recently on the Spectrum News 1 NC video segment called Voices for Change. Dr. Wester describes how she and other educators are leading conversations in North Carolina classrooms to make sure all students feel heard and accepted. Watch the segment here.
Dr. Laura Gonzalez (TEHE) Launches Undocu-friendly College Planning Website
Students who are DACA recipients, are undocumented, or live in mixed-status families often find that college planning is complex and challenging. In response to this growing community need, TEHE professor Dr. Laura Gonzalez has launched “So Much Potential,” a new website aimed at educating high school counselors and staff so that they can better support all students on the path to college. Ebonie Jones, SES Alum, Named Guilford County Schools' 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Ebonie Jones, an English language arts teacher at Oak Hill Elementary and a UNCG SOE alum, for being named Guilford County Schools' 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year on September 15th! Ms. Jones graduated in 2019 with her Masters in Special Education from the UNCG Specialized Education Services department. Read more.

UNCG Homecoming 2020 is Going Virtual!

This fall, Spartans will enjoy Homecoming without leaving home — UNC Greensboro is hosting its Homecoming 2020 in a virtual, online format the week of October 19-24, 2020. We hope you will join the SOE festivities remotely, including a Lunch & Learn with CED Faculty on Tuesday, October 20th and the Virtual Children's Festival on Saturday, October 24th!
