Thank You to the Trillium Family Foundation

The wonderful folks at Trillium Family Foundation just made a renewed grant to Known by Heart (through our fiscal sponsorship with Springboard for the Arts). Big thanks to Trillium—this funding will help Known by Heart make more programming available in 2018.

Take a Minute to Help Shape Arts Programming for Older Adults

It’s not too late! FilmNorth is still looking for help shaping its new programming for older adults. FilmNorth was a great partner in Known by Heart’s 2017 programming and we’re looking forward to working together again in 2018 to bring arts programming to older adults.

Click here for the brief survey—it’s just two questions and an opportunity to provide your contact info if you are interested in these free classes. They will be offered at FilmNorth in Saint Paul in 2018.

Please take a minute to help FilmNorth get the input they need to offer the best possible programming.

Keeping the Artist in Teaching Artist

Thanks to a 2018 Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant in Poetry, as an individual artist, I’ll be getting support to finish a manuscript about learning to read and write braille as an adult.

The grant will provide resources to complete the manuscript, work with the amazing Carolyn Williams-Noren as a mentor and offer a workshop at Vision Loss Resources as well as a couple other community events.

Not all states or communities support artists and the arts in the ways Minnesota does, so I am grateful (even as the temperatures plunge!) to live where I do.

And it’s great to have this nudge to walk the walk on my belief that it’s vital to keep the “artist” in the role of teaching artist. To help others explore and grow as creative people, it’s vital that we continue and grow in our own creative practices.

Much gratitude to the Minnesota State Arts Board…and the voters of Minnesota (see below) for making this possible. And check out the MSAB website for the other artists and projects these grants are supporting.
