                                                                                           November 1, 2021

Little Community,

Happy Fall!  The leaves have turned all kids of beautiful colors and the air is getting crisp!  It has been so amazing to be back together and sharing in some of our favorite traditions.  From RISE to Conferences, Field Trips to Trunk or Treat, it is the amazing feeling of being together that brings us so much joy.

We are wrapping up the first trimester of the year, and your students have grown so much.  At the beginning of the year, we were re-learning how to do school and getting back into our groove.  Now we are sailing at full force as our Little mathematicians, Little authors, Little readers, and Little scientists.  They are exploring, creating, discovering and problem solving every day.  We are so proud of the amazing strides they are making and the effort they are putting into their work.  Be sure to check in with your student regarding the goals they set for themselves at RISE night.  Ask them what kind of progress they have made, and how they are working to be an active learner every day at school.

Coming up this winter, we have some more fun events coming!  Our PTSA is hosting a Read-a-Thon fundraiser for the school, we have our annual Turkey Trot, and our Winter Family engagement night is coming up quickly!  We are looking for families to help us to host this celebration and share the traditions of the world with our community.  If it is something you do as a family, or something native to your heritage, we would love for you to sign up to host and engage with us on this night!

As we are working on continuing to grow and engage our community, we invite you to join us on November 4th for our PIE (Partners In Education) meeting from 5:30-6:30, right before our PTSA meeting, to discuss issues pertaining to our school such as enrollment, budgeting and school data.  It is an opportunity to have your voice heard within our community.  We hope to see you there!  (Pie will be served!)

Finally, we would like to welcome some new faces to our Little staff!  Monika Herrera has done an amazing job of stepping into the Family Engagement Liaison role and finding new and exciting ways to connect with our families.  Additionally, we were extremely fortunate to be able to add to our Little Team by adding an additional paraprofessional to support the day to day operations of our school and to work with students in their classrooms.  In this role, we welcome Nikki Weiczorek who has been a part of our Little community her entire life and has served on our PTSA for the past five years.  We are grateful to have an incredible community who have come together to support our kiddos!

We look forward to seeing you all soon and continuing to partner with you as we continue to push and grow as a community!

In partnership,
Julie Waage

ART CLASSES
ORIGINAL WORKS

Original Works packets have gone home and families can order keepsakes with their kid's artwork on them until November 3rd.

National PTA's Reflections program provides opportunities for recognition and access to the arts which boost student confidence and success in the arts and in life.

Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.

The 2021–2022 Reflections theme is I Will Change the World By…

Students submit their completed works of art in one or all of the available arts categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music
It's almost time for the twenty-ninth annual Turkey Trot! We will host this event on Friday, November 19th in the afternoon. This is a great event for students to have a fun run around the neighborhood.

The second part of this fun event is a food drive during the week where we'll be collecting non-perishable food items. Students will be given a ticket for each item donated, and entered in a drawing.

The third part of this event is the drawing on the day of the Turkey Trot where students can win turkeys or pies!

As always, we want to thank all our families who are able to donate food items for the food drive as well as turkeys and pies!

Library & Technology
Reminder: Every week students come to the library for book checkout. If students are not returning their books each week they are not able to check out new ones. This is hard on students as they watch their classmates get new books. Please refer to the library website for the day your student's class goes to the library. Teach students to keep their books in their backpacks so they come to school every day especially if they are traveling between homes.

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP

Learning never stops and neither does digital citizenship.  Teaching our students digital skills and inviting them to reflect on how media and technology affect their daily lives is essential to helping them connect with the world around them.  Jeffco Public Schools continues to partner with Common Sense Education to provide our students, teachers, and families with engaging, timely, and essential digital citizenship resources.

During the month of November, many of our classrooms will engage in digital citizenship related to Media Literacy.  Media Literacy addresses important concepts such as bias, opinion, author's purpose, and critical thinking.  It also includes asking specific questions and backing up your opinions with facts.

MONTHLY MOTTO: We are critical thinkers and creators.

Discussion Question for School and Home:  How can I be a critical consumer and creator of news and media?

How to help Little Elementary receive donations
when you shop at King Soopers
The Kroger Family of Companies is committed to community engagement, positive social impact and charitable giving at the national and local levels. Every community is unique, but our common goal is to partner with the neighborhoods we serve and help the people there live healthier lives.

One of the ways in which we do this is through our King Soopers Community Rewards program. This program makes fundraising easy by donating to local organizations based on the shopping you do every day. Once you link your Card to an organization, all you have to do is shop at King Soopers and swipe your Shopper’s Card. Here’s how it works:

1. Create a digital account.

A digital account is needed to participate in King Soopers Community Rewards. If you already have a digital account, simply link your Shopper’s Card to your account so that all transactions apply toward the organization you choose.

2. Link your Card to an organization.

Selecting the organization that you wish to support is as simple as updating the King Soopers Community Rewards selection on your digital account.

1. Sign in to your digital account.
2. Search for your organization here.

3. Enter the name or NPO number of the organization you wish to support.
Organization Name: Little Elementary PTSA
 NPO#: EY318
4. Select the appropriate organization from the list and click “Save”.
Your selected organization will also display in the King Soopers Community Rewards section of your account. If you need to review or revisit your organization, you can always do so under your Account details.

3. Your organization earns.

Any transactions moving forward using the Shopper’s Card number associated with your digital account will be applied to the program, at no added cost to you. King Soopers donates annually to participating organizations based on your percentage of spending as it relates to the total spending associated with all participating King Soopers Community Rewards organizations.

If you have any questions, please contact our Customer Service Center.

Whether you’re a customer or an organization, get started today!

Note: If you are a customer, make sure you have a preferred store selected to view participating organizations. If you are applying on behalf of an organization, please select a store in the same area as your organization.
INFORMATION
Dear Jeffco Families,

This is a reminder that if your child has any signs of illness, please keep them home until all symptoms have resolved or are improving. Please call your student’s absence into the school's attendance line each day. If your child's symptoms do not resolve within 48 hours from the START OF SYMPTOMS:

DO ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

HAVE YOUR CHILD TESTED FOR COVID-19
● A PCR test remains the most accurate form of testing and is recommended.
A follow-up PCR test will be required if the individual tests negative with a rapid test and has COVID symptoms.
● To find a current testing site: 211 colorado
● Contact your district RN immediately with positive test results.
● Once a child has tested for COVID-19, the child and all siblings must remain at home until the test results have been
received, EVEN IF THE STUDENT IS FEELING BETTER.
● If the COVID-19 test is POSITIVE, the child will follow Home Isolation for 10 days.
● The child may return to school when symptoms are resolved or resolving AND
● the child has been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.

OR

FOLLOW HOME ISOLATION
● 10 Days following symptom onset AND
● 24 hours fever free without the use of fever reducing medications
● May return on the 11th day

Please reach out to your medical provider with any questions or concerns regarding your child’s illness.
*If your child has a history of known allergies, please submit a medical provider note to your district RN stating what your child’s baseline symptoms typically look like. This will help the district RN to distinguish your child’s allergy symptoms with possible COVID-19 symptoms.*
