Little Elementary Newsletter
Principal Waage's December Community Letter

                                                                                          December 1, 2019
Dear Little Family,

This past week we have spent so much time focusing on all that we are thankful for and looking forward to the new year. We are incredibly thankful for our Little Family and for the network of support that is our Little Community. Thank you for sharing your children with us, thank you for loving and supporting our staff, thank you for the hours you spend engaging our school community and thank you for choosing to make Little a great place to be.

Coming up this month, we will be celebrating the incredible diversity and traditions within our community with our Winter Family Engagement Night as we celebrate Holidays Around the World. We invite you and your families and friends to join us for an evening of learning new traditions, taking photos with Santa, sharing in fun and games, and enjoying an evening together on Friday, December 13th. Our annual winter family engagement night is an opportunity to have some fun and to connect as a community. If you are interested in hosting a table to help share your family’s traditions, we would love to have you teach and share with each one of us.

Also this month is the beginning of the Jeffco Choice Enrollment period. Be sure to log into Enroll Jeffco to indicate your enrollment for next year, including confirming that you will be returning to Little in the Fall. This enrollment period allows us to staff and plan for the 2020-2021 school year. If you have friends/family who are looking for a school for the fall, we invite them to reach out and become a part of the Little Family! Please invite them to join us for the Winter Family Engagement Night to meet some members of our community, or to our Enrollment Night on January 14th.

With us looking forward to this new year, we are delighted to able to keep Ms. St. John for the remainder of the year where she will serve as our in-building substitute. This will allow for us to support classrooms during teacher absences during this Jeffco guest teacher shortage and she will be able to continue supporting our students around the building when she is not covering in a classroom.

We are also delighted to announce that Little Elementary has returned to Title I status which will allow for us to receive additional funding to support the needs of our community. During our first PIE meeting in 2020, we will discuss what this means for our school budget and will be seeking parent feedback for the 2020-2021 budgeting priorities.

Little Families, your ongoing partnership, love and support is what makes Little an incredible place to be. It is what makes all of these events and opportunities possible. As we are entering this season of family, gratitude and giving, we hope that you all know that you are our family and for all that we are able to share with you and you with us, we are grateful.

 Happy Holidays,

Julie Waage, Ed.S.
Principal

Dear Families,

Sharing information about yourself can be a natural and healthy activity as it leads to
positive connections and personal growth. However, oversharing can present real
safety risks. As our students with 1:1 TechforEd devices utilize more online platforms
to build content mastery, their need for understanding privacy and the impact of
sharing information online increases.

During the month of December, our fifth and ninth grade classrooms will engage in
digital citizenship learning related to Privacy & Security . These lessons will introduce
students to the concept of online privacy and the potential implications of sharing
private information with friends, the public, app providers, and more.

At home you can support your students in understanding Privacy & Security in a
variety of ways. With young children, you can compare online with real-life scenarios
where private information should not be shared (like interacting with a stranger in a
store). With older children, you can talk about encountering clickbait, setting up
strong passwords, and messaging with people online.

Monthly Motto: We care about everyone’s privacy.

Discussion Question for School and Home: How can I keep my personal data safe
and secure?
