It has been so wonderful to come back together as a community these past few weeks and to connect with one another.  Human connection is something that we all need, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to connect with our community.  Last week, we hosted our second RISE Night of the year and had the chance to connect, once again, with each other.  Whether it was the quick moment to say hello as families came to pick up dinner, or connecting together in the virtual RISE conferences, it was amazing to see your faces! 
The second half of the year is an important time in your child’s learning!  For each grade level, you will see students being pushed in their thinking and engaging in more challenging tasks.  Their brains have grown so much since the beginning of the year and they will continue to blossom as we see the foundations laid out by teachers early in the year come to life as students apply their learning.  When visiting with your child in the evening, ask them what they learned in math today, what they enjoyed reading today, or how they connected their learning in class to the real world.  Knowing you are invested in their learning and asking these questions helps students to be intentional about their learning and hold on to their thinking so that they can share with you! 
In this upcoming month, our 3-5 students will be preparing for CMAS testing.  This is a state assessment done to allow students to demonstrate their achievement and is used for school accountability.  We have seen amazing growth in our students this year, and even with so many changes in our typical routines, all of our students have proven to be resilient and they continue to push and to grow.  They are eager to be learning and we know that they will continue to do their personal best in the classroom and on this assessment. 
We are delighted to welcome back our WatchDOGS this month!  The role of the WatchDOGS this year will remain outside for supervision at drop off and pick up.  If you have 30 minutes to spare at the beginning or end of the school day, we want you here!  We love having our DOGS on duty, so please reach out to Miss Jenn in the office if you are interested in helping out! 
If you or someone you know is interested in being a part of our staff, we are currently looking to hire a paraprofessional to help us to finish up this school year and lend a helping hand in the building.  The position is posted on the Jeffco Jobs Board through Wednesday, February 3rd!

Our Read-A-Thon is January 28th - February 11th, 2021, so please register  now to help our school raise as much as we can for increased technology  needs this school year and making online resources and virtual field trips  possible for students:

• Click “Not Registered For This Year’s Event” 

• Enter your name and email address, then click “Submit” • Follow the instructions on-screen to register students

When you finish, the system emails or texts pledge requests to your family and  friends and allows them to make secure credit card donations online. You get  notified each time a pledge is made, and you can track your pledge progress  online. 

Once the fundraiser closes, we will allow one week for donations to come in.  On 2/18 we will tally up the money/texts/emails/minutes to determine what  prizes your child earns. Prizes will be awarded on 2/25.

Little Elementary Read-A-Thon
"Student Council will be selling Val-O-Grams the week of February 1st - 5th for $1.00.  This is a fun way to send a sweet note to your kiddo, a friend, or staff member for Valentine's Day.  All orders must be emailed to Mrs. Martin no later than February 5th, and payment sent into the school in an envelope or U.S. mail.  We will then create the Val-O-Gram and put it in a baggie and will be delivered to in-person kiddos on Thursday, February 11th.  Remote kiddos will have theirs mailed to them on Tuesday, February 9th."

We thought that since COVID has prevented the Little family from getting together for school activities that it might be nice to create an album of what in-person and remote school and school projects look like.   The two pictures here are examples.  Pictures submitted to the folder could be shared via our social media.  Because of this we ask that you only share pictures of your children and family.
By uploading the pictures there is an understanding that you are aware that could be shared on social media including PTSA’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.  This is entirely managed by the Little PTSA and we’re excited to see how your school year is going!

Food/Meal Service During Remote Learning
Free Meals Available to All Aged 1-18 During Remote Learning Period
Locations Coming Soon

Starting Monday, November 30, Grab-and-Go Meals will be available to all students for pick-up at 15 district locations. Specific sites will be communicated later this week.
  • Meal pick-up will be Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30 - 4:30pm
  • 3-day and 4-day meal packs available each day (breakfast and lunch)
  • Meal pick-up will be inside building, not curbside
  • Students do not need to be present to pick up meals
  • Meals will be served cold or can be heated at home (instructions will be included)
  • Parents/Guardians may pick up meal packs for younger siblings
  • One parent/guardian may pick up meal packs for additional, non-related students (for example, those who are remote learning together (names of students will be recorded for documentation)
  • Masks/face coverings and social distancing will be required at pick-up

Attendance Expectations for Remote Learners
Or: Why is my child being marked absent?
  1.       In order to be marked present for the entire school day, students must be present at ALL synchronous learning times (this includes whole group, small group, and individual meetings with the classroom teacher).  Students who miss sections of the day, or the entire day, will have an unexcused absence.
  2.       If students are going to miss part of the day, or need to leave a session early, it is imperative that the parent or guardian calls the attendance line (303) 982-0310 x1 to excuse the partial or full absence.  It’s also appreciated to let the teacher know of the absence or early dismissal, but the attendance line MUST be contacted.
  3.       As with in-person learners, remote students who are missing instruction could face consequences from our district truancy department if attendance becomes a concern. 
  4.       As always, if you have an individual situation that may prevent your student from engaging in learning synchronously, please connect with your student’s teacher to determine a plan that will work. 
Bus News: 1- If your child rides the bus, please check their backpacks for a form from transportation titled Student Transportation Assumption of Risk and Waiver with COVID Supplement (on back). Please fill this out and return it to the bus driver.  2- As you may have already read in yesterday’s district email: If our bus driver is affected by a positive COVID-19 case or a quarantine situation occurs, this may result in canceling bus routes for a period of time, and possibly on very short notice. If this occurs it will be necessary for you to arrange transportation for your student. Please have an alternative plan in place to get your student to school. Start talking with your friends and neighbors now to make plans!
Water Bottles - Just a reminder to please send your child with a water bottle (with a lid) to school each day. Due to COVID-19 restrictions our water fountains are turned off, and we do not have water bottles to hand out. Please supply your child with a water bottle. We have had quite a few thirsty children this week!
Reminder About Student Belongings - Please don’t forget to label your student’s items (coats, backpacks, gloves, etc) with their first and last name.  Since we don’t have a true lost and found bin this year, we are having trouble reuniting lost items with students.
Seasonal Allergies - If your student is known to suffer from seasonal allergies, which may present similar to COVID-19 symptoms, please request a letter from your child’s medical provider stating what typical symptoms your child may exhibit when they have allergies. See THIS LETTER from our district health team for more information.  
Calling in an Absence - This year, when you call in your student for an absence due to COVID-19 symptoms (i.e., fever, cough, shortness of breath, new or recent loss of smell or taste, sore throat or nausea/diarrhea), it is imperative that you indicate any of these symptoms with our school.  It is possible that our district RN will need to follow up with a phone call. Thank you for helping keep our community safe and healthy!
Arrival at School/Health Screening
As the students enter the school each day your child will be asked “Are you currently sick with a cough, sore throat, or runny nose?” and their temperature will be taken. Any person who does not pass the symptom question OR has a temperature of 100.4 or over will be moved to a medical safe room where they will be re-screened and supported until a parent/guardian picks them up.
Please talk with your child so that they understand the question they will be asked and what to expect as they come in each day. 

Due to concerns for health, nobody outside of staff and students will be allowed to enter the school building
