SUPPORTING THE INDUSTRY: OUR LATEST FIGURES
Our latest figures for 2018 show that we've supported almost 80 projects since our launch, worth over £9 million in value. Six of these were completed in Q2 2018.

Fourteen different universities have provided Expression of Interest responses - a sure sign of the wealth of world-class oil & gas research expertise in Scotland's universities.

OGIC CEO IAN PHILLIPS WINS INTERNATIONAL AWARD

In October, OGIC CEO Ian Phillips was awarded SPE Distinguished Membership by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) at its annual technical conference.

The award recognises Ian's SPE North Sea Region leadership roles, including being Regional Director and Aberdeen Section Chairman, and chairing the SPE Offshore Achievements Awards.

SPE international award winners are nominated and chosen by their colleagues and peers, and we're delighted that Ian's hard work and achievements have been recognised by the industry.

OGIC AND THE DIGITAL OILFIELD

It's been a busy autumn for OGIC and the industry, and we recently announced three new research projects on digitalisation. Project partners are Robert Gordon University's School of Computing Science and Digital Media, and three innovative companies: DNV-GL, ComplyAnts and IDS.

Ian Phillips, OGIC Chief Executive Officer, said:

“Digitalisation is key to a sustainable oil and gas industry. Successful automation and integration of a huge range of tasks across many aspects of the exploration and production cycle, are now possible through the ability to rapidly process vast quantities of data in very short periods of time.

“OGIC is supporting three projects researching new approaches to exploration tasks which will reduce costs and increase efficiency and, ultimately, production, in a less labour-intensive way."

COULD YOU BE A TECHX PIONEER?

Up to £100,000 of funding available to start-ups with new technology ideas, plus intensive mentoring and access to oil & gas partners

Applications for the next TechX cohort are now open. If you don't know TechX, it's the Oil & Gas Technology Centre's technology accelerator and incubator, helping technology developers take their solutions to the oil & gas market.

If you want to apply or find out more, go to the OGTC website.

November sees the TechX UK roadshow travelling to various UK cities, including Aberdeen and Edinburgh. This is a great opportunity to get more information about applying for Cohort 2, and key dates and timelines, and there are also Q&A sessions. There's more information on the Events section of the OGTC's website, or you can email techx@theogtc.com.

Companies from the first TechX cohort have now moved into TechX+, and one of the stand-out 'graduates' was OGIC project partner RAB-Microfluidics, which won the BP TechX Technology Award of £60,000 to continue to support its technology development. Huge congratulations to the team.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ADVANCED INSULATION
OGIC sponsored the Innovation award at October's EIC (Energy Industries Council) awards, and our Chief Operating Officer Ernie Lamza (left in the photo) was part of the judging panel.

The award went to Advanced Insulation for its underdeck and bulkhead fire protection and insulation system, and Ernie presented it at the awards ceremony.

CASE STUDY: TENDEKA WITH UNIVERSITY OF STRATHCLYDE

Tendeka identified an opportunity to perform a computational investigation of the performance of the Autonomous Inflow Control Device (AICD), which is used as a valve for oil production applications. It wishes to develop a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model for AICD.

It engaged with OGIC and selected Professor Dimitris Drikakis's CFD Group at the University of Strathclyde as its academic partner to complete the testing.

The results enabled Tendeka to quantify the ability to improve and expand the applicability of the technology. It now aims to use the knowledge gained in an internal NPD process to develop a commercial AICD with improved gas and water control performance.
