As we inch closer to August I want to give everyone a summary of the last month and a half and also update everyone on the plan moving forward.
On June 8 we started our small group training for our Fire club members. It was a rocky start but we found a facility that would allow us to play.
On June 18th we had our first official Colorado Summer League (CSL) game. This was a competitive league was designed for elite college players. The Goats, led by Chad Kruezer (Furman ‘21), won the championship in OT vs the Oysters. We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
The Colorado Summer League ran smoothly because of everyone involved. Our commissioner, Al Nolting, was/is the rock of our league. He made most tough decisions easy for everyone to agree upon. From scheduling to safety, Al was the guy behind the scenes making the difficult decisions.
All of our coaches:
Robb Host, Tom Mott, Max Tuttle, Nick Tuttle, Bill Edell, Joe Edell, Rocco Romero & Clark Woodard. Every coach was first class. We had a lot fun and kept it competitive. Great group of guys!
Nate Reinfret & Matt Ehrlich were a great fit and really helped mold the culture of the league.
Jack Kiefer, Connor Quinn, Ollie Nolting,
Our League Mom:
Jody Nolting, did a great job taking care of the boys registration and uniform needs. She made everyone feel comfortable and brought people together.
On June 20th we had our first 8on8 League Game. This league was designed for HS players and went very well. Most of the players were exhausted by the end of the game because of continuous end-to-end action. Our Commissioner Anthony Sanfillipo did a great job with the field set up, scheduling, filming and coaching. The Saturday’s were long and sometimes hot. Anthony did a great job keeping everyone involved. Monarch, led by Braeden Wimer, won the 8on8 Championship beating Sasquatches in the final game.
We have one more event scheduled, The Players Camp, which is a competitive league for rising HS players (2023-2025). The teams are coached by some of the players in the CSL. The first game is this Monday(7/27). There are a couple vacant spots left.
Once the Players Camp is concluded, on July 30th, we are going to shut it down for the Summer. The 2021’s and 2022’s, in the club, will be credited with 2 events they can use this Fall or next Summer. The 2023’s and 2024’s will have a credit of 1 event they can use this Fall or next Summer.
Again, we are shutting everything down after July 30. I’m looking to get a scrimmage day, for our Fire lc members, vs another program prior to July 30. I will have a Fall practice schedule posted by August 15th. This Fall we have 3 events scheduled so far. (Prep League, Pumpkin Shootout, Florida Tournament).
The reasons for this decision; The coaches feel like we’ve been playing a lot over the last 2 months, compared to most and we don’t want to press the issue. We don’t want to jeopardize the safety of our players and/or coaches by pushing too hard especially when there is no recruiting allowed at this time. That on top of the scheduling obstacles ,that are constantly in the way right now. We don’t believe it’s worth trying to plan anything this August and would rather regroup/organize ourselves for the Fall season.
Our first Fall event will be the College Prep League, starting September 13. This league designed to help facilitate the recruiting process in the lure of playing in a recruiting tournament. We are looking to promote the top Seniors and Juniors (2021 & 2022) in CO. The league will play NCAA rules, recruiters will be invited to observe and everything will be filmed.
The first 100 players registered will be admitted into the draft, coaches will have a draft on labor day (9/7). Every league night will be on a Sunday starting 9/13 - 10/4. Each team will have a designated coach and captain that will draft their team electronically and will be available to the public.
I hope everything makes sense. Feel free to reach out with questions.
