Young Mums Project

Home-Start York recently secured funding from Jo Cox Social Isolation Fund,  The British Red Cross and Home-start UK to run a pilot young mums project. This project will be managed by organiser, Deb and two volunteers, Julia and Melissa.
The project is tailored for mums under 25 who may be feeling isolated or lonely. Deb currently runs two groups a week. Thursdays 1-3 at Acomb Library & Tuesdays 10-12 at Burnholme Library.

Parents can bring along their little ones to these groups and free refreshments will be available.

If you're a volunteer supporting a parent under 25, you can also accompany your parent to a group.
Evrah Rose Video Campaign

Evrah Rose is a spoken word artist from Wrexham, North Wales. Evrah is often seen creating a buzz on social media and is well known to young audiences. She can be seen on BBC Live Sesh, has been aired on BBC Radio Wales and can be heard on Lunar Poetry Podcast.

Earlier this year, Evrah kindly agreed to write a poem for Home-Start York about being a young parent. Filming took place in Wrexham in November and now our new video is almost ready to go live on social media! You can see a sneak preview below. We hope you like it!

Our new website is live.

Our new website went live last week and should make accessing information easier. Referral forms are now available and families can self refer. It works well for our volunteers too who can now access expense forms, diary codes and diary sheets easily. Our events pages will be updated regularly and all our social media accounts will be linked to the website. Many thanks to Kevin Greenhill for helping us set this up and for his patience with us all as we got to grips with it!

We're pleased to welcome Sarwat Shah,  Sandra Furby and Val Bowman to our Trustee Board.

Huge thank you to the Chat & Craft group for their donation of beautiful handmade quilts earlier this year. Many of these quilts have now been given to families. There are still a few larger quilts left and these will be available to win at the Christmas Toy Fair raffle.

We're excited to announce that The British Red Cross has chosen Home-Start York to feature in a short film they are producing. The film will document the work we are doing to support young mums in the community. Filming will commence on Tuesday 4th December.

We are continuing to support military families in Fulford, Strensall and RAF Linton on Ouse. The project is going really well and we are getting referrals from the camps as well as self-referrals.
We are hoping to hold some groups for parents that are feeling isolated.  We will work with the Welfare officers at the camps to set this up in the new year.
If anyone is interested in supporting us with this or has any ideas, please get in touch.

Laura is the editor for Families magazine and she will be running the Manchester marathon in April 2019. We are delighted that Laura has chosen to raise money for Home-Start York and we wish her the best of luck!  You can support her by clicking the button below.
