Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir, artiste basée à Brooklyn sous le nom de Shoplifter (fr. Voleuse à l'étalage), a été sélectionnée pour représenter l'Islande à la cinquante-huitième Biennale de Venise qui aura lieu du 11 mai 2019 au 24 novembre 2019. Birta Guðjónsdóttir, la conservatrice de la Galerie Nationale d'Islande à Reykjavík, transformera le pavillon en une sorte de caverne, pour l'occasion. Shoplifter explore le langage de la chevelure dans tous ses états. « C'est le fil ultime qui pousse de notre corps, » la nature symbolique de notre individualité ! Elle s'inspire de traditions scandinaves et africaines pour métamorphoser le tissage, le tressage, les dreadlocks et la 3D afin de créer des fresques capillaires qui ont été commandées par le MoMA et la pop-star Björk, et qui ont influencé les coiffures spectaculaires de Lady Gaga. Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir, the Brooklyn-based artist who goes by the name Shoplifter, has been selected to represent Iceland at the fifty-eighth Venice Biennale, which will take place from May 11th, 2019 to November 24th, 2019. Birta Guðjónsdóttir, the chief curator at the National Gallery of Iceland in Reykjavík, will curate the pavilion. Known for her large-scale installations, sculptures, and performances, Arnardóttir is obsessed with hair, and both artificial and human hair feature prominently in her work. “I find it fascinating that we have this forever changing ‘vegetation’ all over our bodies, which we have to groom and tame,” Arnardóttir said in an interview with Infringe. “Hair is a remnant of the wildness that we possess, and one of the few things that survives our existence. It’s like a shield, or alternatively, it can be a way of showing yourself to the world.”
Arnardóttir experiments with hair by dying it a rainbow of colors and by brushing, weaving, plaiting, and even melting it to create humorous works that range from oddly shaped organic sculptures to massive murals. For the upcoming Biennale, the artist will transform the pavilion into a sort of cave, where hair will completely engulf the walls. In addition to the colorful fibers, Arnardóttir has commissioned the country’s legendary rock band HAM, whose frontman is a former member of Iceland’s parliament and a former Reykjavík city councilman, to compose music for the installation, which will be played on a loop. Commenting on the opportunity to make new work for the exhibition, Arnardóttir said: “I’m really happy about this. It’s like getting to the Olympics of art. The Icelandic Pavilion always draws attention, and I do not intend to change that.”

De la DENTELLE du Puy-en-Velay pour sauver la barrière de corail ! Il y a deux ans, Jérémy Gobé ne se doutait pas que sa pratique artistique autour des coraux le conduirait à créer un projet ambitieux pour les océans, les littoraux et leurs habitants. Dans le cadre du FITE (Festival International des Textiles Extraordinaires), HS_Projets l’invite à rencontrer la Scoop Fontanille. L’artiste découvre alors une entreprise innovante, ressuscitée par la force de conviction d’employés amoureux de leur savoir-faire. Jérémy Gobé est immédiatement frappé par un point traditionnel de la dentelle locale : ce point reproduit à l’identique la vue microscopique d’une cellule de corail qu’il reconnait immédiatement.
L’intuition est lancée : et si cette dentelle pouvait être utilisée pour sauver les coraux ? Les coraux sont nécessaires aux écosystèmes marins, à l’alimentation des habitants des littoraux, à la biodiversité de notre planète. Or les barrières de corail, véritables poumons marins de notre environnement, dépérissent en raison du réchauffement climatique. Les épisodes de blanchissement qu’elles subissent les affaiblissent, les coraux perdent leurs micro-algues symbiotiques, empêchant leur renouvellement et entraînant ainsi leur extinction. Avec la chercheuse en biologie marine Isabelle Domart Coulon, le projet détermine un protocole afin de prouver que la dentelle permettrait de développer de nouvelles boutures de corail et de les implanter sur les récifs décimés.

Marta Meneghetti expérimente la perceptibilité visuelle et la neuroesthétique. Elle examine la production générée par les lieux, les non-lieux, la spatialité, les actions, et leurs compositions. Dans un constant échange avec la perception du Corps, l'artiste communique et constitue le lien d'empathie avec le public. Créée en collaboration avec Eva Luna Thomann et Federica Marra, la synthèse de la recherche de Meneghetti a été récemment présentée à Piazzola sul Brenta. À travers de simples éléments d'uneperformance in situ – quatre panneaux colorés en blanc d'un côté et en noir de l'autre, une balle suspendue au plafond, et des corps peints en même coloris – le visiteur questionne la relation entre l'intéroceptif et l'extéroceptif, le perceptible et l'invisible, la motricité du corps et la mécanique. Les dispositifs bicolores renforcent cette syncrétisation qui bouleverse la vision de la réalité. Pour Meneghetti, ces rapports sont cruciaux pour étudier les voies neuropsychologiques dans le cortex cérébral et, ainsi, dévoiler l’essence psychique de l'engagement entre le spectateur et le rôle de l'artiste avant, pendant et après l'acte créateur.

Marta Meneghetti continues to develop her research on visual perception and neuroesthetics in the framework of Visual Art Masters (IUAV, Venice) and of recent participation in exhibitions (“Lost in Venice, disguidi veneziani”, Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa (VE) ; “Mirabilia”, Festival Biblico, Progetto Giovani (PD) ; “Coordinate urbane”, Associazione Culturale Carichi Sospesi (PD) ; “Step by step”, Progetto Giovani (PD)). Throughout her artistic work, she examines how elements, compositions, places and actions can produce knowledge: in the constant exchange between internal states and exterior perceptions, humans communicate and create a bond of empathy with the audience while sharing space in active engagement. The in situ performance presented at Piazzola Arte Contemporanea (Piazzola sul Brenta, Padua, Italy) on May 19th, 2018 is a synthesis of Meneghetti's work: with simple elements – four boards coloured in white on one side and black on the other, as well as a ball hanging from the ceiling, also black and white, – the audience takes part in a reality exploration exercise. The performance created in collaboration with Eva Luna Thomann (Masters at Dimitri Academy in Switzerland) and Federica Marra (performer and student, Masters in Digital Exhibit, IUAV, Venice) focuses on a simple objective: the organic movement of the four bicolour boards. Following the rhythmic and coordinated paths, Eva and Federica play with the different possible combinations between them and the boards, the boards and space, space and their bodies, their bodies and those of the spectators.
