Spotlight on … Filmmakers

Sarah Carlson, Lynn Woods, Stephen Blauweiss and Jamal David Sanders are four local filmmakers whose works have attracted attention in the advocacy genre. Their works – Food Deserts in a Land of Plenty, Lost Rondout, Midtown Kingston – capture communities known for artistic populations and political awareness.

To help Kingston visitors find, enjoy and buy artists’ work, MAD News will highlight artists in a rich range of disciplines – ceramicists, wood crafters, jewelers, theater/performance artists, musicians, metal workers, writers, weavers/textile artists, designers, architects, visual artists and, this issue’s featured artists, film/video makers. We need to hear from you!

Three major film and video production hubs (existing and under development) are positioning Midtown Kingston as the regional center of gravity for the film/video industry. Seven21 Media Center and RUPCO’s development of The Metro and Stockade Works – as well as the Center for Creative Education, Hudson Valley Tech Meetup and retail space – are all about “lights, camera, action!”
