Dear Friends of Fordham Sailing,

This weekend marked the beginning of the spring season for the Rams as we took on our first two team race events of the year, the Georgetown Team Race and the Navy Team Race invite. Team members Bella Rabeni '24 and Maggie Costikyan '22 have provided recaps of each event which can be viewed below along with the respective tech score links to view results.

Georgetown Team Race
After our first week of practice, we traveled to Washington, D.C. to compete at our opening event, the Georgetown Team Race Regatta. Saturday presented the team with consistent conditions and competitive races. We completed two round robins against Georgetown, George Washington, Hobart and William, and Old Dominion University. On Sunday, the morning conditions were windy, but died off through the day. Our assistant coach, Tucker Hersam, provided us with valuable coaching that we were able to incorporate through the regatta. While we didn’t have the results we hoped for, we came out of the event with a strong sense of what we need to work on to have a successful season.

Navy Team Race Invite
This weekend we kicked off our season by traveling to Annapolis for a team race event at Navy. Saturday we rattled off three round robins in warm weather and mostly consistent breeze. Though our team is relatively new to team racing, we end the day with 6 wins and 6 losses! After a big sushi dinner on Saturday night thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Kumler, we went into Sunday with high spirits looking to pick up a few more wins. Though we were interrupted by some weather, we completed two more round robins and finished the day with 9 wins and 11 losses. I’m very proud of my teammates for our efforts this weekend and I can’t wait to see what this team will do in weekends to come!

Next weekend the Rams will again compete in two team race events, the St. Mary's Team Race and the NYC Open Team Race. The St. Mary's Team Race is the second event in the four week team race league that will determine which teams qualify for our team race conference championship and the Rams will look to build on their experience from this past weekend to improve their position in the league. The NYC Open Team Race is a new event this year hosted by NY Maritime and will again feature an opportunity to provide some much needed team race regatta exposure for our developing players. Stay tuned for Tech Score links to both events in the coming days.

Go Rams!
