Bringing light where there was despair!
Last week on a rainy, dark Friday afternoon, Roberti Community House received a call from the Lake County Health Department asking for help from our Community Health Workers.
Our team quickly rallied to put together bags of food and supplies for two families in need. All we knew about one mother was that she had to be separated from her kids and placed in temporary housing at a local motel. She was coming with nothing was scared and not sure what to do. The kids would be temporarily living with friends until mom could come back.
We gathered personal care products, utensils, and several healthy prepared meals from Roberti Culinary Pathway kitchen she could heat up in the microwave in her room. She had food and supplies to see her through the weekend and she felt relief to hear that food, snacks, supplies, and crafts would be delivered to the kids and adults living in the apartment.
Checking in on Saturday to see how she was doing she said, I could sleep "As I was eating the soup I felt better with each bite. Thank you"
Once you are part of the RCH community, you are no longer isolated. The kids now know about the Afterschool and winter drop-in youth programs we offer when school is not in session. And mom knows she has many adult programs to explore to expand her social support network once she is feeling better.
Because of the support you have given us over the past ten years, Roberti Community House truly has become a touchpoint for an ever-growing community - and we are all better because of it.
May the light of this season continue to shine bright on you and your family.
