One thing we know for sure, we are always BETTER TOGETHER!

Roberti Community House is happy to reopen most adult and children’s programs. Seeing that our community is still vibrant and ready to come together after so much isolation has been a balm to our souls.

10 Years Looking Back
RCH Helps Carry the burden
Trina was one of the first families to come to RCH 10 years ago. She lived across the street and her kids grew up enjoying our programs: junior chefs cooking, afterschool support, gardening, and playing with other neighborhood kids in a safe, fun environment.
Three years ago the family moved to North Chicago but Trina still comes to visit and sometimes the whole family will drop by to catch up or volunteer their time.
Knowing she could count on Roberti Community House, Trina recently shared her concerns about another family. Her friend had passed away from cancer two years ago and the family left behind is struggling. The grandmother is caring for the five children but no longer has her daughter’s income. She is scared and remains isolated, worried the kids will be removed from her home.
We are providing a listening ear, food and resource support for this family. Thanks to Trina, we can break the pattern of isolation and carry some of the grandmother’s burden while the family works through this crisis.
RCH’s goal is always to be a safe, welcoming place where people can share sorrows and joys and find ways to help each other and community.
New Tent is Coming!

Last month we shared how strong storms knocked down trees, our fence, and permanently damaged the tent that kept our volunteers safe from the elements.
Thanks to ALL who responded, including Lake County Community Care Covid Relief, Morgan Stanley’s Graystone Consulting, JD Power and Associates and Marc Price and Carol Gaines, we will be able to create a more permanent structure! We recently obtained a permit so can now prepare the site for a cover that will protect our food distribution, and volunteers, year-round.
Until then, we are working with several temporary tents and repairing the damage we are able to fix.  Thank you for keeping us out of the rain.

With such great community support we can do anything!
Afterschool Drop-In Tuesdays and

Our neighborhood kids have really missed coming to RCH after school for a healthy meal, active learning, and fun.
It is especially important now, after such a long period of isolation, to welcome the community back.  Initially started outdoors on Tuesdays, we are now open for youth to drop in, play outside, and take part in activities with other kids and student volunteers inside.
Each child is also sent home with an individually packed hot meal prepared in the Roberti Culinary Kitchen.
As in years before, we would like to offer this program twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays,  We need YOU to help us expand and make that possible..

Healthy Connections

Roberti Community House continues to promote healthy connections through our Community Health Workers (CHWs). Community Health Workers reach out to the most vulnerable in the community to provide education information about COVID-19 and help with registration for the vaccine. They also deliver emergency food and support to families who are isolated, homebound or need immediate or temporary assistance.

Sherita has COVID-19 and does not feel well, but must also care for her four children, who all tested positive after returning to school. The family was unprepared for the sudden quarantine and reached out to RCH for food assistance. We were able to provide fresh produce, pantry staples, and prepared meals easy to heat and serve.

The Campbell family, another family referred to us for emergency support, proved to be a challenge for the Roberti Community House staff, as she is 45 minutes from us. But with our dedicated volunteers we made it work and this family is SO GRATEFUL. Receiving prepared meals from our culinary kitchen, diapers and non perishable staples gave her the emotional boost she needed, to know next week's meals would be  nourishing and healthy while in quarantine.

We are able to do this in cooperation with the Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois Public Health Association.  CHWs provide local COVID-19 education and outreach support such as food, housing, PPE and other resources.

Veggie Rx

Roberti Community House has partnered with the Chicago Botanic Garden and the Lake County Health Department’s WIC program to promote healthful eating with MORE VEGGIES.
A pilot program, under the banner of "Veggie Rx", fresh fruits and vegetables are offered to the community at affordable prices or FREE to qualified participants (WIC/SNAP members with children under 5 years). Engaging with our neighbors allows us to educate us all about the health benefits of more produce in the diet, as well as suggestions for preparation.
The smiles speak for themselves!
