The weather was kind for our three outside events over the summer and all were deemed a great success. The first, our stand at the Beckett Park "Picnic in the Park" was a good opportunity to advertise classes to a reasonably local audience.
The first of our two dancing performances was our White Rose Festival which was slightly less well attended than last year, but this was due to clashes with date rather than a loss of popularity. The main disappointment was the lack of children's teams, so we were more than pleased to welcome a new children's team, and hope we might be able to organise a children's team from Leeds again in the not too distant future. The Leeds team was delighted to be joined by a couple from Horsham and their account of the experience is in the forthcoming Branch Dancers' Newsletter.

Also in the Newsletter is a report of our positive experience of dancing at Countryfile Live in the grounds of Castle Howard. Though our arrival was reminiscent of the worst of Glastonbury, out came the sunshine and dried up all the rain, so Scottish Country Dancers could strut their stuff again.

A huge thank you to Catherine Livsey who put together the team, arranged the programme and music, and acted as MC for both days, even tweaking the programme as we learned lessons about encouraging audience participation.

The BBC must have been pleased with Castle Howard as a venue, for they have booked again for next year - 6th to 9th August.
New Season
Term starts again in the week commencing 9th September and we hope to see you all there. Don't forget, although class fees are £4, there are loyalty cards available to Branch members, which reduces the fees to £3.50.

Talking of membership, we are delighted to welcome 5 new branch members, Oliver, Sharon, Pam, Phil and Jean - I trust you are enjoying dancing in Leeds and we will get a chance to meet at our dances later this year. To the rest of you, if you have not renewed your membership please do it now - Branch membership form for 2019-20

Remember, without your support we cannot administer the classes, social dances and events we offer, or pay our dues to RSCDS HQ who provide us with legal support, insurance and teacher training, as well as all the international contacts, Spring Fling/Fringe, Summer School, publications and CDs etc. from which we benefit.  AND you get discount at all our classes and dances, PLUS a £5 voucher to spend in the Branch Shop!  Bargain!
