Branch AGM and other news

Dear Dancers,
What a wonderful ball!  My first, and a real treat despite the foggy journey home.  So lovely to dance on a properly sprung floor in such a beautiful venue.  Just wish I'd had the courage to go before.

Congratulations to Maureen Haynes, who was MC for our AGM Dance at Corpus Christi; she was presented with a Society Scroll of Honour at the recent RSCDS AGM in Perth.

The new Branch Committee had their first meeting on Sunday, 25th Nov and after being welcomed by Claire in her role as Chair, set about planning for the year, with a special focus on the first three months.
In the New Year John Pugh and Ray Williams (co-opted) will share Treasurer duties, with Ray doing the book-keeping.  The Committee elected Alan Horsfall as Vice-Chair.  Some other committee roles have also been shared out: Jill Woodman is the new Minute taker; Marion Walbank will be co-ordinating the refreshments at social dances, and may well approach you for a turn at the teapots; Nicola Waugh is taking over from Mairi Devlin as September Day School organiser.  Other plans include a recruitment drive for new dancers (of course) and resurrecting a stalled archiving project.  A busy year ahead (also of course).

Workshops and Day Schools

The Musicians' Day School is on the 16th March 2019

If you know of any musicians who might be interested in this please pass the information on to them. This is an opportunity to develop expertise in playing Scottish Country Dance music. The workshop sessions will be led by Ian Muir, an accomplished Scottish Country Dance Musician and Senior Tutor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. Whatever your instrument, Ian will enable you to participate. Participants in the Musicians’ Workshop are also invited to play alongside Ian to form the band for our evening dance.  See address on application form to contact Heather Foote for more information.  There are not many such workshops and it will be an exhilarating experience, with a very experienced and accomplished musician and band leader.

Christmas Break and Spring Term Dates

Last classes before Christmas are in the week beginning 10th December and we start again week beginning January 7, 2019 until the week of 8th April 2019. Why not bring a friend or two along to try something new in the New Year? First class is free to newcomers.

Impending price rise for shoes. We have just heard from Katz, our ballet shoe supplier that they have put their prices up for the first time since 2010. We will absorb this increase until the New Year and then our prices will go up as well - so buy your ballet shoes for the new season now and beat the price rise.
